Hyatt Regency New Orleans — Hotel in New Orleans

Hello Everyone,

I'm a Hyatt Honors member. I stayed at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans Aug 30, 2024-Sept 2, 2024 for Labor Day weekend. On the first day me and my wife went to Vitascope Hall restaurant in the hotel on the menu it has Classic Muffaletta Sandwich. For those who don't know a Muffaletta Sandwich is a specialty sandwich that's only in New Orleans and created in New Orleans. So I order the Muffaletta Sandwich 15 minutes later the waiter came back and said they don't have the ingredients for the Muffaletta Sandwich. So I ordered chicken wings instead since the hotel didn't have the Muffaletta Sandwich. So when I received the chicken wings the chicken wings was tiny wings. Now for breakfast the whole time we was there it was bacon and andouille sausage it was just pork and no chicken option. We have stayed at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans plenty of times and they always had chicken sausage as a option for breakfast but not for Labor Day weekend. Actually the Hyatt Regency New Orleans had a lot of options for breakfast in the past. It look like Hyatt Regency have cut back on breakfast items. On Monday Labor day went to breakfast I saw a roach on the breakfast buffet move from the grits to the end of the buffet, so I let the chef know that was a roach there at the breakfast buffet. The chef saw the roach and used his bare hand and swung to hit the roach several times. Hyatt Regency New Orleans have cameras all threw the hotel so I know it was cameras that see the chef trying to hit the roach on the breakfast buffet. Hyatt Regency New Orleans Management can look at the hotel cameras and see the chef doing this. The Chef did comeback and told me he called pest control for the roach issue. I waited for cooks to remove the food on the breakfast buffet because you didn't know what the roach touched but that didn't happen. Then when I ordered a omelet for breakfast there was no Bell Peppers and no mushrooms for the omelets. When a Executive Chef or Food and Beverage Director create a menu for a hotel or restaurant they take into account vendor issues for the menus and create substitutions for every product on the menus. For example Hyatt Regency New Orleans didn't have chicken sausage for breakfast so they could have substituted with grill chicken breast or sautéed chicken breast. Chefs and Food and Directors get taught this in school when creating menus. Every major hotel have Executive Chefs and Food and Beverage Directors. For those who rave about this Hyatt, you must not travel much! Let’s start with the positives. The location is great and hard to beat. But that comes with negatives that we will touch on later. Lobby is updated and nice but there’s negatives with that as well. Rooms were clean-ish. Staff was on site (that’s the only positive I can say about the staff). I am not one to leave negative reviews but my stay at the Hyatt Regenecy of New Orleans has cemented a decision to never book Hyatt again. We came to New Orleans for a particular concert which we knew would draw a huge crowd making travel very difficult. We choose this hotel because of its location. Location - as mentioned it is a great location. BUT because of this their valet service was “full” and we were forced to park in their parking garage which was 1/2 a mile away and still was charged $50 a night to park there. The main reason I chose this hotel was because of the location AND valet service which I confirmed would be available on my drive down. When I presented to the staff that I confirmed that valet would be available I was told that I was “unlucky”. Lobby - The lobby seems to have been renovated in the last 5 years or so and is nice. But the layout is insane. Once you enter the front doors of the hotel, you have a VERY long walk to the guest room elevators. And I mean VERY long. Not sure what the thought was behind this design. But do not plan on carrying your own luggage to your room. Rooms - the rooms were clean-ish. By this I mean that the room was vacuumed, beds were made with fresh linens and the bathrooms were clean as well. But the room was old and outdated and because of this there were stains on the walls from dirt, scuffs from luggage or whatever and the door was nasty. Apparently maintenance has the same attitude as the front desk clerk and the valet attendant. Also, the thermostat in the AC will not go below 68, which would be fine in some cases, but muggy NO makes the room warm. Overall I will not be staying at this Hyatt (or any other Hyatt) again due to this experience. Again I hate to leave negative reviews, but after being gouged at a total rate of $901.35 for a double bed room (nothing special whatsoever) I...

January 2025 The Good and the Bad

The hotel is enormous and full of people. The facilities were good, and the front desk reception was efficient and friendly. All the staff were extremely helpful and nothing was a problem.....and that's about it.

I Disliked. The management....This hotel appears to be managed like a low-budget airline business model such as Spirit. You have to pay for everything, I mean everything, all hidden fees that were not disclosed to the customer at any stage.

For example: Our booking did not include breakfast. OK We need to check our booking next time (Note: even the official website does not include breakfast)………naughty, naughty. Parking is $53.00 per day plus tax… It should be free at these expensive high hotel rates. Parking at the Hyatt is 150% more expensive than parking at the New Orleans International Airport. Another rip-off.Airport parking$22.00 per day Television….another rip-off. The movie Finding Nemo is $9.99 + tax are you serious Hyatt? You can choose fast internet at another rate. (Business clients should have the fastest Internet possible considering the high rates). I requested a trolley to transfer my luggage from my room to the reception area. The man was a retired truck driver and insisted that he take the trolley to my room. I can do this task myself but he insisted. When I did not require his services he said I cannot do it myself (no idea why) He delivered the trolley with me and waited for his tip… not good... I can push a trolley. The room needed to be cleaned and after 2 days we had to ask reception for our room to be cleaned. The room 20-42 had a broken tap in the bathroom, a threadbare carpet in 2 locations, black hairs in the bath and sink a noisy air conditioner that sounded like an air compressor. OH! Don’t forget the sneaky Destination Fee of $25.00 per day.

I have stayed in many hotels as I'm an Engineer. This would be the worst sneaky-managed hotel I have stayed at in the USA, looking for that extra dollar using hidden fees and charges.

My overall experience at this hotel is a negative 5 out of 10. My message to the management, stop ripping off your clients. Stephen Bro… 2042
