I would like to post 10 stars for the outstanding, masterful repair work that David at Kilman's completed on 2 rings for me. One ring was judged "beyond repair" by a very upscale jeweler in Michigan, who estimated almost 3 times the repair cost that David charged. The other required labor intensive prong restoration. But... David knows how unhappy I was with the timeframe of the repair, and his lack of communication. This echoes other complaints about Kilmans. I talked to David about this, and understand he is trying his best. He is flooded with repair work on jewelry and watches, because of his quality service. However, he just doesn't seem to understand the importance of returning phone calls. I for one would have been much less annoyed if I had received the call backs ("I'll get back to you") that were promised. I gave the rings to Kilman's on January 28, 2020. I got them back on March 20, 2020. While I was never given an actual expected completion date, I didn't expect it to take nearly 2 months, and 3 phone calls (one the end of February; the others in early March a week apart). If I had known upfront, fine, I would have understood that. Instead, I was advised the rings were almost ready, waiting for stone, and then promised to be ready March 13th, but not. It took a 4th call, and a personal visit and an angry me, to get a commitment to have the rings finished for pickup the next day. Bottomline: Kilman's has an incredible inventory of exquisite collections and does excellent jewelry repair at a very good cost. However, repair work can take much longer than expected. And David doesn't follow up with you. David apologized for the delay and not calling back. I hope he takes the criticisms to heart. Give customers a better idea of the expected timeframe for repair, and do follow up when you say you will. You have great employees who can help...
Read moreDon't ever bring a clock in for repair to this business. This man had my mother's Old Mission Grandfather clock for five, yes five years. I periodically stopped in and asked about it and The Owner said " the parts are hard to find. I've got it working now. Had it chiming last night. Just have to make fine tune adjustments to the pendulum." I said " I can make the pendulum adjustments." He replied "I almost have it ready not much longer." Meanwhile my mother died on year three. I tried many times to just pick up the clock. Five years later I demanded the clock back. The man did absolutely nothing, NOTHING to repair the clock. No pendulum, nothing EXCEPT he "lost" the clock hands. So the "chiming, fine tune adjustments," were BOLD FACE LIES. The clock had its two original hands when I dropped it off. All it needed was a pendulum. I have the pendulum arm just locate a pendulum. It took five years to get it back covered in dust. I'll never see the clock hands again. He took my mother's immaculate clock and gave it back in worse shape than he received it. I lovingly cleaned the dust off and the clock is back in my dining room no clock hands, no pendulum. Silenced forever. A daily reminder of The Owner's ineptitude and deceit. I for one will never give this man my...
Read moreAwful. I have given this store multiple chances, because they are a local family owned business. Each time gets worse than the last . They in just the last two visits have have tried to give me someone else's ring when I went in to pick up mine from a cleaning and stone replacement (and couldn't find mine for days!). They had the nerve to ask me if I was sure it wasnt my ring!! The last visit was a basic link removal from a brand new watch... WRONG!! They removed the links, but bent the pin in one of the links, which resulted in the watch falling off my arm within hours of wearing it, and breaking the glass. The owner acts as if he's doing me some huge favor by replacing the glass, then blames the manufacturer (they weren't the ones banging on the watch in the back, he even told me he was having problems with the pins), nice try. After getting my watch back, over THREE weeks later, my brand new watch is missing a dial... They are slow, and just awful jewelers. Do yourself a favor and drive a little further, they will most likely lose or break...
