Joy Luck Garden — Restaurant in New Smyrna Beach

This place is right around the corner from us, so when we don’t feel like cooking it is very common for us to order General Tso’s chicken with extra sauce as it is our favorite. Tonight we placed our order and asked for extra sauce as usual, however when we got home there was literally no sauce in the bottom of the dish. We called the restaurant to let them know we didn’t receive the extra sauce we ordered and asked if we could come back and get some extra sauce. We picked up the sauce and returned home to eat our dinner. First bite it became very clear that the cook somehow took offense to us returning for sauce as the sauce was made ridiculously spicy at a level that made our dinner inedible. If this is how they choose to treat locals who are regular patrons, I can’t even imagine how they treat guests to our city. No way we will ever return and we caution anyone else who may be thinking of ordering from this location. Unbelievable business...

My wife and I drove from Palm Coast Florida to new Smyrna Beach to try this restaurant. I don’t know what all the negative reviews are about. It should be 5.0 I saw the staff was extremely friendly. The service was fast. The food was awesome. We don’t have a Chinese buffet in Palm Coast Florida. I wish they would open up a second location up here but until they do, we are going to to be making the round-trip to do Smyrna beach and back to our house in Palm Coast, Florida, with, full tummies!!!.

We were there at lunchtime on a Friday and it was $13.50 per person. My wife had ice water I had a hot tea and ice water. It came out to about $30 plus a gratuity we gave them 20% so 36 bucks not bad for as much as we could eat....

Ordered mushi pork and kung pao chicken. The mushi pork, while not too saucy (a complaint we sometimes have with this dish) was undercooked. The cabbage was a tad too tough/chewy but overall, it did taste ok. However, the kung pao chicken was probably the worst rendition of that dish we've ever had...VERY spicy with no taste...just heat. Please note that I love spicy food but this dish was just horribly overspiced. Really bad. Given our experience with these dishes, we won't bother to go back again. A pretty disappointing restaurant....
