I had accidentally went to the womenâs store to pick up an order and they were so nice in directing me where to go. I went over to the menâs store and the employees that âhelpedâ me were very disrespectful. I had seen a baccarat rouge parfum that I wanted to purchase that was across from the guest services desk and asked for a sample. The lady standing by guest services told me âUm you better hurry up before we close.â I get the rush but the time wasnât even near closing. I ignored the passive aggression because it was 45 minutes before closing and itâs the holidays so I understand. I gave them my name. They didnât believe I had placed an order and kept looking at me up and down. They didnât even check my phone at first they kept telling me âwe didnât see your order before, maybe youâre in the wrong place.â I let it go because it was most likely a stressful few days for them, I work with customers and I know the strain it puts on retail workers. I shop at other luxury stores and I know I have to present my id when picking up an order and as I was taking it out one of the women go âWell Iâll need your id before I even go back there and check but I know itâs not here.â When she took my ID and went to the back she came back and gave me my order and thatâs when they warmed up to me and started acting nice. I was so upset because they were giving me attitude and rolling their eyes and I couldnât believe it. I didnât even bother with the parfum anymore I was so put off. I work with customers so Iâm extra positive and nice with anyone that works in retail because I know how stressful it gets but treating customers like this unprovoked was just wrong. The stores are wonderful and offer great variety but never again with...
Read moreLate 2022 I was referred to Berdorfâs Menâs store on 5th Ave. by another reputable store nearby. I was told the item Iâd been waiting for was perhaps available at Bergdorfâs (the unavailability at the previous store was due to massive setbacks in shipping that year, carried over from 2021). When I approached a salesperson at Bergdorfâs Menâs store and asked to be helped - before finishing my request - the person literally got out of their seat, said nothing, and walked away with no return. I was neither rude nor impatient in my approach, and wondered for days after why Iâd been treated so poorly. Additionally, the store section - perfumes - was poorly staffed. So I ended up leaving Bergdorf in frustration + disbelief, going to another store days later. I never got the item in question until February of this year (â23), back at the first store where it had finally been restocked. SOo Iâd give Bergdorfâs Menâs Store on 5th Ave (58-59th) 0 stars if I could. As an African American male, to experience blatant racism of this kind - in 2022, 2023, whatever - is not only hurtful personally, but economically and time-wise as well. The Bergdorf salespersonâs unprofessional and unacceptable actions have cost that store a few hundred dollars; cost me perhaps 2 hrs of my time (trip + this review); but - most importantly - cost Bergdorf and Goodman 5th Ave the price of what I hope to be a popular and widely-read review - and warning - to would-be...
Read moreThere are a lot of comments about how â1%â this place is. Itâs true that the products arenât cheap. But, as a counterpoint, I just want to explain how this store is the very opposite of elitist. I am young and a person of color. I am usually ignored by salesmen at midmarket places like Brooks Brothers unless I walk in after work wearing business attire (once, someone ignored me until I picked up a shirt and started walking to the fitting room; at that point, he literally sprinted towards me as if I were going to stuff it into my pants and take off). Anyway, I only tell this anecdote because, perhaps surprisingly, Bergdorfâwhich is substantially more upmarket than BBâunfailingly treats me with respect and, even more, with an obvious eagerness to keep me as a customer. Once, there was a small altercation between two customers and, if you could have seen the way all of the staff reacted, you would think they were Secret Service agents rushing to guard me and the other patrons. I know, itâs another extreme anecdote, but itâs a true story, and stands in stark contrast to my treatment elsewhere. I truly hope this establishment remains a New York...
