Dining at Bergdorfs is something that shouldn’t be missed. We had a reso for 1:15 for 4. We were seated at a round top in the middle isle of the restaurant and tucked all the way in the back. This location of the table was good and bad at the same time which I will review at the end. Our choices were difficult as everything on the menu was fabulous. Our first thought was tea but at the end we ordered entree’s from the menu. Each different and lovely. Braised short rib, jumbo crab cake salad, roasted brussel sprouts and cauliflower steak and roasted chicken salad. I think most everyone thought the crab cake was the best choice. For those that have shellfish allergies there are many choices. I being one of them chose the cauliflower and brussel sprouts. Cauliflower was perfection. Sprouts could have been roasted another 10 min but were fine. Chicken salad gorgeous with a poached pear on top and the perfect size. Braised short ribs soft off the bone with a really nice selection of veg. Crabcake large and beautiful and served beautifully on greens. The starlight martini is a must to try. So fresh and gold stars that are sweetly floating on top and turn to a misty glittery glaze on top. Stars get stuck on lips and are just so beautiful. That was fun. We also ordered two martinis and tried two desserts at the end. Tacky date Pudding and chocolate hazelnut something. Both amazing and perfectly shared between 4 For a sweet bite at the end. The water glasses are Worth mentioning and are unique and wonderful to drink from. A special late lunch we talked and laughed and added to the already chatty atmosphere and enjoyed the absolutely rainy view outside. Our server was fantastic and appropriate timing wise and also described the entrees beautifully. She was a joy. Lastly, which I didn’t discuss with our group because I would never want to bring up a negative, was the table location. While it was tucked away inside the restaurant, our table was next to the server computer area. Busy with servers working the computer, they bumped my chair and coat on the chair every time they passed me. It was bothersome to me but I don’t think my family noticed. It’s worth mentioning because Bergdorfs wouldn’t have put a celebrity there. Many people would have asked to be seated somewhere less busy. I didn’t want to ruin our excitement with something negative so we sat there. I would suggest from the start next time on a table somewhere further away from the server station. Also, tables just inside the entry are small and people are passing you constantly would not be the place to sit. We noticed these tables when leaving and visiting the restroom. Ideally tables in middle of the restaurant, whether on the window or wall or middle isle are all good choices. Window seats are nice but I wouldn’t obsess over them. Our table while being near servers was not passed by anyone coming or leaving which felt nice so there is a positive to the tables in far back. Lunch drinks or dessert here is something to not be...
Read moreThis was a shocker (not a good one). We went here for the wow factor, obviously. If you go as well, keep in mind you will be paying for the location/view. The service was impeccable, the restaurant and the staff really made sure that our experience was just incredible. Here's the shocker - the food. Oh the horror. Whoever the chef(s) is should be tied to the chair and fed the same dishes they made! We ordered a crabcake and a salmon with one alcoholic drink to sip on. How can one ruin couscous? Well it happened. We tried each others dishes to make sure neither one of us was going crazy. Crabcake came with a small coleslaw and splat of fancy tasting mayo mix. The best part of crabcake dish was the mayo mix, see the light greenish splat on dish for reference. The salmon dish...ughh the fact that it was salmon made it tolerable, the couscous did not have a chance...how and why would you ruin couscous!!!!??? You will get better flavor at Ikea (kid you not). The one drink we ordered was a flop it was so alcoholic I could have ordered a shot at an east village bar.. Both of us were taken back by the polar opposite of pristine service and staff vs the food that was butchered with no mercy. Few weeks later I dined in an Amtrack sleeper and their prepackaged dinner dish was tastier than this. Definitely memorable experience, it is now the threshold of quality of food we are getting at a specific restaurant. Fyi, I NEVER decline dessert, splitting but always trying at least one. When another incredible staff came in to offer dessert menu I had to decline so that my taste buds did not commit suicide. It would have been unfortunate if the two dishes were followed by a similarly made dessert. We tipped plenty, but I cannot justify paying $200 for mediocre food. So many places where you can get tasty fish (any other fancy restaurant or ikea) and yummy crabcakes (pennsylvania 6 nyc or cheesecake factory). Originally we were suppose to do afternoon tea, but we did not make it in time, and settled for dinner, figuring we woould come back next time for it. Reading mixed reviews on afternoon tea, it's a hit or a miss, and Im not spending another $200 on that again. The two stars are for the staff, otherwise this...
Read moreBefore I could afford to have lunch at BG I did, it's been about 20 plus years I have been treating myself there, so for me to write this review is heart breaking. It's started when I swung by and asked to make an 1130am reservation for one and the young girl told me they weren't open. I know that, that why I wanted to make a reservation. She told me to come back when they opened, so I made the reservation on open table. There was an awkward interaction when I came back for lunch and my reservation was already in the system. They sit me down and I score a seat by the window my favorite spot in the restaurant but yet my bubble chairs are gone. Scanning the menu I see that my beloved lobster Napoleon is no longer offered. Thats a shame since it was such a BG unique dish. Change is constant and one needs to adapt so I ordered the lobster mac and cheese and new to the menu the duck dumplings with the pineapple mock-tail. The mocktail was too thick and sweet, more like a smoothie but not. I ended up ordering a coke and they took the drink off the check without me asking. The dumplings were meh, they could do better with the dipping sauce and compare to China town dumplings insanely over priced. But inflation and all that right? The lobster mac at $44 was was a soupy mix of over cooked pasta disappointment. How can you mess up mac and cheese? Almost forgot, they went around with what seemed like corn bread squares but when I asked the server if he could bring me the old seeded bread he was able to with butter that was too hard (cold). Seems like I am being nit-picking but for $100 lunch some details shouldn't be over looked and the food should be better than meh. I gave it 3 stars and not less because like in any bad relationship you romanticize the past and hope...
