A moody, calm, and gorgeous dining room greeted us when we walked down Felice 56's steps. Such a wonderful atmosphere was the backdrop for our lovely, romantic early Valentine's Day meal here.
The food was delicious. The salmon tartare appetizer, although expensive, was simply exquisite--one of the best Italian cuisine appetizers I have tasted. My partner finished it and said that it was well worth the price point. The bruschetta was also excellent, complemented by flavorful tomatoes and bold flavors.
The salmon rigatoni entree was similarly excellent. I did enjoy my mushroom gnocchi, although the light and delicate flavors of the salmon rigatoni, which my partner remarked built up over time, was unique and exceptional. We enjoyed some dessert (cheesecake, which was fine, and a chocolate cake, which was delicious), although the appetizers and entrees had already made us completely full.
The portion sizes were reasonable, especially as we had some appetizers first. It is a bit pricey, but I fully recognize that it is also paying for the attentive, polite service and wonderful dining atmosphere.
We did make reservations for a prime time on Saturday night. The dining room did get fairly busy, but the tables were all well spaced apart and the layout of the restaurant meant that we were never straining to hear one another (as is so common among some spots...
Read moreI recently went to Felice Montague, which I could describe (at best) as a decent experience. I wrote a review of that location as well, if you're interested in reading it here on Google. I was excited to try Felice 56 after I was invited to dinner here this week, being that this location is in a completely different neighborhood, and borough, of New York City. Still, the experience was simply...decent.
I think the atmosphere at this location is a little bit better (mostly because we weren't seated right by the bathroom, as we were at the Montague location), so I'm giving an extra star on atmosphere here for that. Our server was kind and the place was relatively empty, so service was definitely quicker at this location (which is why they get an 4-stars for service here as well). Still, I think the overall experience was just, okay. The food was decent, but similarly to my review of Montague, the portions are small and it's pricey. I don't have an itch to return here. There are so many amazing Italian places in NYC, I just think there are better places to try. What I do love about this location is that there is great walkability around the UES to Central Park with easy transfer over to Columbus Circle and the UWS via W...
Read moreWe went to Felice 56 last year on the recommendation of a local friend and wow, what a colossal disappointment. I am writing a review now because I am returning to New York soon and knew I wanted to avoid this place at all costs.
We arrived for an early dinner after a day of sight seeing and had high expectations as our friend raved about this place. Since it was so early the place was practically empty. You’d think that would mean great service. Wrong. Our waiter acted like we were ruining his evening simply by existing. Rude, inattentive, and visibly annoyed any time he came over to us. I watched in disbelief as the tables around us got smiles, refills, and attentive service while we were treated like a nuisance.
The food was pathetic for the price point and I would have rather have gone to Olive Garden since at least you can experience better service there and they give you BREAD. We’ve made better pasta at home and we’re not even Italian.
By the end of the meal we couldn’t wait to leave. Between the laughable service and uninspired food, this place is a joke. If you value good food, good service, or even basic human decency, skip Felice 56. NYC has too many amazing spots to waste a night and...
