I guess itʻs pretty standard in NYC to be overcharged by Delivery/Pick Up Wash & Fold service. Itʻs happened when I first got here.
Happened again with BKM. I was surprised because they seemed like such a good business.
BKM claimed they only charge $1 a pound for wash & fold - delivery/pick up. I asked the woman if there was any other fees. She said no, no no, just $1 a pound.
I weighted my items. 3 bags 1 @ 6 pounds - whites 1 @ 13 pounds 1 @ 11 pounds
Should have been $31 according to her pricing.
When I called later to find when delivery of the washed items would be, I asked for the total - because they only accept cash for pick up/deliver.
When I asked her why it came out to $41 - when I weighed my items it only weighed in at 31 pounds, she said we charge $3 per ʻseparateʻ bag. I told her, you didnʻt tell me itʻs an extra $3 per bag. She said, we have to use 3 different washers. So $3 more per bag.
I felt manipulated.
When I get the clothes back.
She (or whoever at BKM) wrote on their ʻnoteʻ (slip attached to each bag - with our address on it) $12 for the whites... $16 for one bag of colors... $13 for the other bag of colors.
That no way reflects the $3 more per bag!
If that was true. It would have cost $9 for the whites... $16 for one bag of colors... $14 for the last bag of colors.= $39... Tax added on to $39 would have been more than $41, so either way I feel lied to.
I donʻt really mind paying more, I just hate when businesses feel like duping their customers. Say one price then just tack on $10.
if they need to raise the price. Just do it up front. Donʻt quote such a low price and NOT honor that price, then just change it on the fly.
Lost a customer. Iʻm refuse to use them again.
There are so many laundry spots surrounding me, so Iʻm lucky I donʻt have to rely on these liars to...
Read moreThe good thing about BKM Laundromat is that it is quite convenient for me, being located just a block below Port Authority Bus Terminal. The washing machines and the dryers are highly efficient. The cost? Well it's Manhattan; what can you say? There are however, also a number of drawbacks. First and foremost, this place is plainly and simply way too small for its' own good. With just 18 active public washers (and 8 more either reserved for wash and fold use, or broken), and this place being high volume, even at 2 on a weekday afternoon, when really no one should be in there, I had to wait first, five minutes to get to doing my wash. Then came the much larger annoyance, having to wait nearly fifteen minutes to then dry my clothes. The reason why? With 18 washers, they only have a paltry 12 dryers to handle 18 small and large wash loads. And anyone who has been in a laundry knows it doesn't take like ten minutes to finish drying; it takes considerably longer. So while my normal time spent in the laundromat should be about 45-50 minutes with a couple of items as I do, here I end up clocking in at nearly an hour and a quarter. Thank God this isn't my regular laundromat. It's honestly a surprise more tempers...
Read moreReally horrible experience. Coins constantly get stuck in the dryers and washing machines. I did 3 loads. One of the machines did not wash the clothes well enough. Had to rewash in a different machine. The employees take up most of the washers, dryers and folding space for themselves doing their chores and leave the regular customers waiting to use a dryer, folding tables and the conviently bigger load washing machines. The employees don't speak English very well and are dressed worse than janitors and are very dirty looking. A customer even came back and complained they did a poor job of washing their clothes and wanted a refund while I was there. Seriously?! What kind of laundromat is this!...
