So I arrived at the theatre early because I came from far away to meet my sister for a show we'd been planning for a long time. At approximately 7.40 after standing in the lobby for 40 minutes I very politely asked the usher taking tickets if I could use the restroom as I was waiting for my sister who had the tickets to arrive. He actually said no. I said I'm a paying patron and I need to use, the restroom I just don't have the ticket as my sister hadn't arrived yet. He said "sorry no ticket no bathroom". I said that was very rude and illogical and asked for his name. He smiled smugly and said proudly, JAMAAL (proud of what I wonder, he behaved badly to a paying patron denying me a basic human function). Thinking there must be some rational person I asked the person behind the ticket window if he was the manager . He quipped rudely, "WHY"?.I politely answered that Jamaal wouldn't let me use the restroom even though I clearly was there to see the show , I mean I had been standing there for 45 minutes in their lobby . I was absolutely shocked by his response. He rudely condescended, and actually said these words "IF YOU WERE AN AVID THEATRE GOER YOU'D KNOW YOU CAN'T ASK TO USE THE BATHROOM WITHOUT A TICKET ". Here 's just a few things horribly wrong with his horrific response. Being an avid theatre goer has ABSOLUTELY NO BEARING on needing to pee,,(which I should've done on his disgusting face). Not only am I am avid theatre goer,,I am an amateur performer and musician, but again irrelevant to this imbecile's comment. In fact I've been to multiple actual Broadway Theaters (this ones so off Broadway, it's a hop away from New Jersey literally around the corner from the Lincoln Tunnel) where they graciously and rationally allowed me to use the restroom as I awaited the rest of my party who were holding my tickets. And then a manager by the name of Jason had an opportunity to apologize (at this point I had ticket in hand so they stood there with egg on their faces) and instead this highly unprofessional individual who again proudly , with nothing to be proud of, referred to himself as THE BOSS . Based on his atrocious behavior I highly doubt that. He was so power hungry that when I calmly asked if he thought his ticket agent comments was appropriate, he threatened me to go watch the show before he kicks me out! I said why don't you just give me my money back and I'll go happily voluntarily. He refused. Btw the ticket agent behind the window (where he belongs, he belongs in a cage, the way he misbehaved, of course refused to offer his name. And btw , even though I was a paying patron, what would've been so bad to allow someone to pee in their empty ladies room. Wasn't crowded. These 3 men? Not sure if any of them merit that word, did not respect their paying customers, did not respect people at all, mocked, threatened and insulted their paying customers. Folks, DON'T SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE! There are too many other theatres and entertainment venues who respect their guests and the money we spend there. This certainly wasn't one of those venues. And btw, the production was mediocre. I saw the original Broadway production (avid theatre goer and how, but again, so irrelevant ) back in the 70s as well as many other productions including my own high school's production in the 70s which was much better performed than this mediocre performance. These 3 clowns working the lobby do nothing to enhance the show or experience. STAY FAR AWAY. These so called men really hurt my evening and beyond and do not belong in any capacity of receiving guests. I hope they each get denied the use of a restroom , (as paying patrons No less) very soon so they realize , perhaps, the error of...
Read moreWent here for the D&D show (fun fact: my aunt is the production manager and she hooked us up).
Just a few nitpicks from the experience so you know what to expect: -It had all the perks of a Broadway show. It was in an off-Broadway theater (Stage 42 obviously), had Broadway prices, and even included a brief intermission. However, it was more unique. I think that was the overall goal here. -They need to at least explain what is going on - not all of us know how to play D&D. My mom didn't understand what was going on!!! -The audience got to pick the names of each NPC character (the DM guy played those characters too), but partially because of my first point, the names all sounded like they came straight out of Key & Peele. -It's hard to do improv in front of 500 people, I admit. The mage girl and the DM guy did it best. The warrior guy kept forgetting his hammer and the trickster guy kept defaulting to screaming. -There was another guy who was the "tavern keeper" but he was mainly there to keep the show going and bring up the choices, which were then transposed onto a website on our phones. Basically Kahoot for grown-ups. -Because the choices were made up on the spot, some of them were just A or B.
Otherwise, enjoyed...
Read moreFirst time at Stage 42. My Wife and Daughter surprised the inner nerd in me for Father’s Day and bought tickets to the 20 Sided Tavern Show. The show was excellent. The cast was great and encouraged photos and videos. I loved how it was audience interactive by guiding a one shot D&D campaign with your smart phone. Lots of laughs, adventure and the stage set was beautiful. The theater itself was nice, chairs looked new and were comfortable. The theater looked like it is well maintained and do not think there is a bad seat in the house. They have an escalator that can take you up to the mezzanine, which I thought was nice as my knees aren’t 20 years old anymore. The staff was friendly and polite and the lines at the beverage counters and bathrooms moved quickly. I would surely see...
