I am writing this review in hopes that a manager take the time to read my experience at this location. First and foremost, I have been a customer of Blue Mercury for several years. It is my 'go to' spot for Oribe products. On Wed September 21, 2022 around 11:26am, en route to the train station, I decided to quickly pop in to purchase Oribe hair gloss. It was apparent I was in a hurry, but also knew what I wanted.
First impression, the salesperson (didn't get her name) failed to greet me and had the most unpleasant look on her face (the store was empty btw). Second, I walked up to the Oribe shelf [where she was standing and still no greeting or cared to offer any assistance] and grabbed the sample bottle looking for a price to which I did not see. I then asked her how much the hair gloss was. Again, she failed to say anything. What she did was absolutely unbelievable. She LITERALLY grabbed the box behind the sample, turned the box in my face (approx. 10") to SHOW me the price. I backed up and told her I could not see. At that point, was the first time I heard words from her mouth to which she replied with a sheer attitude, "42". I couldn't believe someone in this profession would treat a customer like so. I IMMEDIATELY turned away and walked out the door shaking my head saying UNBELIEVABLE!! I truly should have asked her name and demanded to speak with a manager, but I was in a bit of a hurry hence, my review.
In my years of being a customer of Blue Mercury, I have NEVER experienced such a rude, disrespectful, unprofessional and uncouth salesperson. It was my first time at this particular location and it truly left a awful taste in my mouth. In my years of being a consumer, I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED SUCH HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE PERIOD!!!
I have briefly worked in the retail industry a number of years ago and it was my duty to treat EVERYONE EQUALLY with pure pleasantry and professionalism and for this salesperson to have the unmitigated gall to display such piss poor customer service is beyond me. I will be escalating this review at the executive level. I encourage management to roll back the video footage per date and time stamp (if necessary) to review the brief encounter. Furthermore, to determine who this salesperson was during said date and time. She deserves to be...
Ā Ā Ā Read more2/19/24: I learned that Will no longer works here. In good conscience, and with appreciation for staff who is still working here, I cannot recommend this Blue Mercury location.
Full disclosure: I worked at Sephora for not quite five years, and in the cosmetics industry for seven or eight years. I know my way around a makeup/skincare/fragrance/haircare place.
And for me, a New York City resident for more than half my life, where I go to buy the aforementioned is Blue Mercury Lexington Avenue, steps from the entrance to Grand Central Station.
The reason for this isn't the well curated and better displayed brands on offer. The reason is the staff, and particularly Will.
I've not worked with more thoughtful and insightful people in this multi-billion dollar industry in years. Years. Upon a recent visit, where I was seeking presents for family members who are each, for justifiable reasons, challenging to buy for.
It took only a brief description of each recipient, accompanied by what I felt could best serve them, for Will to not only think outside the proverbial box, to create a new box. I am a good resource for product recs, while I've been out of the game for a few years. Not only did Will hear everything I said, he presented an almost encyclopedic knowledge about products, what made them better, the brands' founders, and he spent real time on this with me.
It's to be expected that those who work in cosmetics retail know about what they're selling. Will goes further, because he knows it's not enough to know how to sell and what to sell. He knows you must have a degree of genuine awareness of the client, what they seek, and why they want it.
There's no shortage of makeup/skincare sellers in the five boroughs. For me, and I recommend to you, Blue Mercury at Grand Central, because of Will, is your...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had a great customer service experience the other day October 20th at this store. Will welcomed me to the store looking for a bag to put my umbrella in. It was raining, and he was sweet and helpful. Soon I realized that Will is an extremely knowledgeable skincare expert. I was jus stopping by to quickly buy my Trish McEvoy mascaras. He and I chatted a little bit, and he showed a genuine concern about my acne problem. He showed me different products and gave me samples of them. He also helped me pick up a colored lip balm. Because he was so knowledgeable, I asked him about foundations. I donāt really own any foundations, because I worry that they clog my pores. The one Will recommended me matched my color, but I wasnāt sure if I wanted to buy it that day. I was already buying my mascaras and the lip balm which totals about $100 already. Plus, Iām sure everybody experiences that sometimes you buy a product that you end up not using it. Before even I thought about it Will made me a sample of that foundation.
What an excellent shopping experience. From forward I will come to this Bluemercury to all of my...
