looking for gourmet Italian grocery items? look no further than Buon’Italia in Chelsea Market. come for the choices in Setaro brand pasta, but stay for the hot espresso and tiny chocolates at checkout.

the medium-ish sized Italian specialty market is packed with Italian-origin foods from cans of peeled tomatoes to bottles of olive oil to cured meats (prosciutto, pancetta, and more) and cheeses (reggiano, Pecorino, mozzarella and more). the shelves are packed but the store is very organized, clean, and brightly lit. there’s a prepared food bar for to-go-orders — you can order salads, pastas, sandwiches, and moreto eat at the various seating areas within Chelsea Market. order coffee drinks at checkout. if you enjoying cooking Italian, then Buon’Italia is worth checking out as you can grab most ingredients here.

i am a big fan of Setaro pastas which are carried here. whether you need spaghetti or bucatini or pacchieri—you’ll find your favorite carbs here. i end every shopping trIp at Buon’Italia with a coffee and chocolate from checkout.

fair warning—the store runs out of stuff on the weekends because everyone shops here on Fri, Sat, and Sun.

staff is fast and helpful.

drops mic cuz i am exploring...

DO NOT EAT HERE. I used to work here, but to be honest with you the food is not fresh. And when we close we put all the food in the same refrigerator. Cross contamination if you are unaware. The cheeses are taken from the warehouse below Chelsea Market and the workers have told us that rats have been breaking into the boxes and eating some. When they bring it to the kitchen. The boss tells us it's still good because it's still considered "fresh" and then proceeds to just cut off the piece that the rat has bitten. Also, we do have a store cat. If anyone noticed at the back by the deli section there is a large table, we usually keep him behind there closed in. Well in the night he pisses and sprays all over the cans of food we have in front of the store as well by the espresso bar. DO NOT EAT HERE. WE KEEP THE SAME FOODS UP TOO A WEEK. THE SET UP IS A ILLUSION. DO NOT EAT HERE. When inspection comes, it's the same lady every year. They are actually good friends with the owners so they give them an A despite all the broken regulations. DO NOT EAT HERE FOR...

I visited the new store and was pleased to see all of the authentic Italian products. From the pasta to the different type of Jams. Also, in my opinion, the best Panettones and espresso ive had in NYC.

I read some reviews and couldnt help to laugh at some comments.

A disgruntle vendor using this platform to try to get paid..lol. First he says they are a succesful business, but they dont pay their bills. Sounds to me like they just didnt pay him..hmmm must be a reason...paid no attention to this guy.

Disgruntle employee...not very credible i think.

But the guy asking for Jamon Serrano in an Italian store..in NYC none the less. That took the cake. Thats like going to a Chinese store and asking for Udon noodles instead of Lomein..You just dont do it. Lol

My suggestion is this..you want authentic Italian product to make great tasting Italian food. Than this place has great things for you to choose from.

I havent been disappointed with any of my...

I ordered pasta here and had one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve ever had. When I told them my order was wrong, they argued with me about what I supposedly ordered and even told me to “ask the person with you” because I must be mistaken. I never even received a receipt, but they kept insisting I “check it” to prove I was wrong. To make it worse, they were microwaving food in front of customers, and when I asked for my order to be corrected by adding sauce on top of the noodles, I was told it wasn’t possible. For $17, I got soggy noodles with a sprinkle of cheese on top. Bad food, bad service, and zero accountability.

Dessert selection? Amazing. Towards the door, you will find glass domes with gorgeous marzipan fruits, which have the perfect amount of give. Marzipan shaped like a cherry pictured! My favorite nougat (it has cherry bits and hazelnuts in it) is also sold here. If you bake, this place is also a treasure trove for candied citrus, dried fruit and candied cherries (like for fruitcake) sold by weight. I’m realizing this is a pretty cherry-centric review, so I’ll add that there is a super impressive array of capers, which has been a game changer for my otherwise subpar pasta dishes.

Remarkable place! It's toward the back of Chelsea Market (10th Ave side). A tip if you're making this the reason to go to CM - come in from the 10th Ave side and avoid the herd of tourists. This place has it all - from candies to meats to pastas to prepared foods and specialities. Also quite a few pastas and prepared foods frozen. Even caviar in a number of varieties and price ranges. They have specialties like rice and olives as well as more exotic items you just won't see anywhere else. Really well done, folks!
