looking for gourmet Italian grocery items? look no further than BuonâItalia in Chelsea Market. come for the choices in Setaro brand pasta, but stay for the hot espresso and tiny chocolates at checkout.
the medium-ish sized Italian specialty market is packed with Italian-origin foods from cans of peeled tomatoes to bottles of olive oil to cured meats (prosciutto, pancetta, and more) and cheeses (reggiano, Pecorino, mozzarella and more). the shelves are packed but the store is very organized, clean, and brightly lit. thereâs a prepared food bar for to-go-orders â you can order salads, pastas, sandwiches, and moreto eat at the various seating areas within Chelsea Market. order coffee drinks at checkout. if you enjoying cooking Italian, then BuonâItalia is worth checking out as you can grab most ingredients here.
i am a big fan of Setaro pastas which are carried here. whether you need spaghetti or bucatini or pacchieriâyouâll find your favorite carbs here. i end every shopping trIp at BuonâItalia with a coffee and chocolate from checkout.
fair warningâthe store runs out of stuff on the weekends because everyone shops here on Fri, Sat, and Sun.
staff is fast and helpful.

Read moreDO NOT EAT HERE. I used to work here, but to be honest with you the food is not fresh. And when we close we put all the food in the same refrigerator. Cross contamination if you are unaware. The cheeses are taken from the warehouse below Chelsea Market and the workers have told us that rats have been breaking into the boxes and eating some. When they bring it to the kitchen. The boss tells us it's still good because it's still considered "fresh" and then proceeds to just cut off the piece that the rat has bitten. Also, we do have a store cat. If anyone noticed at the back by the deli section there is a large table, we usually keep him behind there closed in. Well in the night he pisses and sprays all over the cans of food we have in front of the store as well by the espresso bar. DO NOT EAT HERE. WE KEEP THE SAME FOODS UP TOO A WEEK. THE SET UP IS A ILLUSION. DO NOT EAT HERE. When inspection comes, it's the same lady every year. They are actually good friends with the owners so they give them an A despite all the broken regulations. DO NOT EAT HERE FOR...

I read some reviews and couldnt help to laugh at some comments.
A disgruntle vendor using this platform to try to get paid..lol. First he says they are a succesful business, but they dont pay their bills. Sounds to me like they just didnt pay him..hmmm must be a reason...paid no attention to this guy.
Disgruntle employee...not very credible i think.
But the guy asking for Jamon Serrano in an Italian store..in NYC none the less. That took the cake. Thats like going to a Chinese store and asking for Udon noodles instead of Lomein..You just dont do it. Lol
My suggestion is this..you want authentic Italian product to make great tasting Italian food. Than this place has great things for you to choose from.
