Updated-May 7 2024 We had California closets come out and build a mounted storage closet for us last week. Amber did a great job with the design again and Christian and Rich were kind and speedy with the install. I’ve added two photos a before and an after showing the new closet in oak. LOVE IT!
Just Wow. I had an amazing experience with California closets. The team was super communicative and on top of it. They reached out to me within 24 hours of submitting an inquiry on their website and were able to get Amber out to help us design our space within a week of my outreach.
We have an extremely small room that had non functional closet space as well as a weird nook in the corner of our bedroom that was just wasted space. Amber helped us create the closets of our dreams! She made the most of our limited space and understood our vision for the additional cabinet. Amber was so kind and easy to work with. She provided amazing insight and made suggestions to really optimize the space we had.
We hired their demo team to remove the existing closet and he was wonderful and detailed, he left the space clean and prepped for the instal. The whole process from my first call to California Closest to install was about 3-4 weeks.
updated I forgot to add that the installation team was amazing! The two guys who installed the closet did a phenomenal job, they were kind, on time, kept their workspace clean, and obviously the finished result speaks for itself.
I am already thinking of the next few spaces I want to have Amber come back and help us design! I absolutely recommend working with the California Closet team. They...
Read moreWe just used California Closets to redesign a few rooms of our house - with the thought process that we would use them if we had a favourable experience. We were told they had a good reputation and would take care and pay attention to detail. They did not.
I would say a "highlight" of the experience was our designer who designed a 5 figure closet that didn't take our door into consideration. The door when opened would smash into four laquered drawers behind it, and also meant that we couldn't use those four drawers because of the design. This meant we had to hire a contractor - at our own expense - to smash out our door & door frame and install a pocket door.
We also used them to do the electrics as it was recommended. This was also a mistake. We explained how the electrics worked on a sensor. A glass door was built around the sensor and now the electrics do not work. In order for us to have any light in the closet ie. not be in pitch black - we have to keep the glass door open which blocks the entire entrance to the closet.
We told our designer of our complaints and received zero empathy. We were told we "signed the plans", and that was all. I am not a designer myself, but if I did design a closet, the door would be able to open and close without construction having to take place, drawers being smashed in and light being able to be in the closet. Getting dressed in the pitch black isn't what we were looking for. We have received zero follow up, however we did receive our...
Read moreI worked with Keith Johnson (Tribeca showroom) to fit out all the closets in my newly renovated UWS apartment. Keith was a joy to work with. Aside from being responsive and timely, some of the best parts of the experience were:
Keith is an experienced designer and helped me maximize the closet space I have, which is not much in a Manhattan pre-war coop. He "found" extra space for me. He provided important logistical suggestions to improve form and function (eg. cutting back the top shelf to maximize light; maximizing vertical height while assuring boxes and things had enough clearance). He designed each closet with me over a Zoom call where I could see everything and ask questions as we went. He is a good listener! I could tell he understood my aesthetics and storage needs. It made the whole process so much more efficient. He was able to make changes quickly. He or someone in his office got back to me quickly when I emailed. He and Cali Closets were very flexible re: changes and install dates. Even though they don't have a lot of leeway, they worked with me to find solutions. This is SO important when your'e stressed out in the middle of renovation delays. Keith and everyone I spoke with were helpful and nice. Some vendors make you feel like they're cutting off an arm to help you. Keith and his colleagues were realistic about expectations but always over-delivered....
