After going to all the nail salons across SoHo, East Village, Nolita, trying out the many different styles of gel design techniques e.g. Japanese finally found a place that does both the manicure and the gel application well. I just got them done, and will update depending on how it fares with time. I am a bit particular with how the nails and cuticles are done. Over the years I learned to look for the following and was glad Monica satisfied all of these items below. A - Manicure and cuticle care: Ask you to wash your hands with warm water before application. This is kind of important in NYC, gives you a sense of the hygiene standards of the nail technician, and let’s face it only applying any kind of disinfectant spray to your nails beforehand does not cut it. Give you an actual manicure in terms of your cuticles because the most annoying thing is to get good nails and then 2/3 days alter realize you have cuticles standing up regardless of how pretty your nails look. There were no bleeders when the cuticles needed clipping Using a thin cuticle scissor tool (rather than the usual clippers) that gives better results imo as it ensures more precision and control Oil after the application Cream and hot towel after the finish

B - Gel application: I did not recognize the brand of the gel she used, but to be honest there are a myriad of gel brands especially in the international market and I am not a professional on the marketplace. Selection of colors : did not have an insane amount of colors, but all the regular tones and palettes +50 shades so pale colors, reds, pinks etc. what was good was that all the colors were fresh and not taken out of the shelf stale nail polishes I was a bit indecisive about the color and Monica proactively offered to try on a shade different than the pink I selected. In a world where people are super snappy about going the extra mile and give you attitude during the process I appreciated her effort to proactively give me an alternative that would mean extra work for her to apply, remove etc. because she noticed I was on the fence. I ended up not needing to try the other colors, but it’s the attitude. Two gel lamps, conveniently located on your right and left side so you do not have that awkward configuration while putting your hands in. After putting on the regular nail polish on one nail she went around the very corners of the nail with a thin brush with polish on it. I have found this to be the most important step / what distinguishes a great vs. good nail technician. Your polish lasts so much better once...

I discovered Colorvat Dec 31st 2018 and that was the best way for me to greet the New Year. Monika and Jackie are talented, kind and just lovely people. I rarely treat myself to manicures. I usually don’t like the hustle and bustle of a nail salon. And my nails never seem to grow and they tend to be weak. Colorvat is exactly what I needed. It’s appointment only and it isworth every penny. Since it was my first time there, I took advantage of the discount for new customers.

Monika and Jackie do a great job of prepping/cleaning your nails. They are so meticulous in the way they work. There is a nice selection of colors to choose from. And Monika and Jackie have great suggestions as to how your nails should be shaped and what colors work best for you. I got the compact gel manicure and it lasted 4 weeks...4! That’s beyond belief. I went back about a week ago. I got another compact gel and a gel pedicure. And my nails look fantastic. Colorvat offers a week guarantee so any chip/scratch that happens, they will fix it free charge. Sometimes I am clumsy and I was too rough opening a window..and boom I had a small chip. Monika and Jackie were more than accommodating to take me. It was fix in a jiffy.

Like I mentioned, I rarely would get manicures because my nails are weak. But in the last 8 weeks, they are stronger and they have been growing steadily since I’ve visited Colorvat.

Updating my review: just went back after 3 weeks and the new nail growth I had was shocking to me!!! I’m SO HAPPY. Healthy nails. Natalia did a hard gel manicure and paid such close attention to detail the entire time. They look PERFECT. I will never stop coming here I would recommend this to everyone looking for a great manicure to transform your nails.

I had the Fiberglass Strengthening Gel Manicure with Natalia. This was THE BEST manicure I've ever had in my life. Natalia took her time and was super attentive to every little detail. This was my first time getting a fiberglass gel manicure and I did have a previous gel polish on my nails from another salon. She removed the old gel polish with ease and care.
