I toured this location and had my trial pass during what I was told would be peak hours - Monday after work. I didn’t think it was too crowded and I asked about the cancellation policy and was informed that there was no commitment period and I could cancel at any time. I chose this specific location due to its convenience for my work proximity. That is when I started my membership. I found the facilities quite nice for the first few months. Then the AC stopped working. We would receive notices that the AC wasn’t working and that we could use any other location in the meantime. That’s great and all except I chose this location for a reason and going elsewhere was not ideal.
This continued on for months upon months. I don’t think a single month went by where I could consistently use this gym. Compounded with an acceleration of members. I am a runner and on my tour I asked if there was ever an issue with accessing the treadmills. I was told they never filled up. Well about 6 months into my membership I had to wait for classes on the treadmills to be done so I could access them due to the fact that all of the non class related treadmills were busy. The rest of the floor was awful as well. Every single machine was in use. For strength equipment there is only one smith machine which I never found empty and all other machines you needed to wait for. If I had found that to be the case during my trial I would not have signed up for this gym.
Between the lack of access to the location, the overcrowdedness and the fact it closed so early on Fridays I decided it wasn’t worth the high price point. Even when they said the AC was fixed I would go to workout and with the overcrowding it was still incredibly hot and stuffy.
On to the cancelation request : It took weeks to process this cancellation and I had to really advocate for myself they were not wanting to uphold the cancellation that was verbally told to me as apparently you had to request an amendment at signing for a way out of the commitment period. This should have been told to me but wasn’t as I was told verbally that I could cancel at any time. I take accountability for that as well as I should have read the contract more carefully.
At any rate I cancelled my membership after 11 months. I know several people who go to this location and told me after i left there was an issue with the hot water and they were told again to use other gyms and the AC still hadn’t been fixed. (Not sure how that’s possible after a full year of these emails and notices)
The locker rooms are nice and the cleaners are on top of things so they have that going for them. I can’t recommend this location to anyone given...
Read moreThis review is in regards to the trainer, Katt Carter. She is the only trainer I have encountered in this location who asks other gym members if her clients can weave in to share a machine and the way she does so is very mean girl style. She has done this to me on two separate occasions. She will loudly make her way over with her client by laughing and talking excessively loudly to make it hard not to notice her and her client. She stood very close to me while I am using one of the machines. When I was done with my set, she immediately asked if her client can take turns with me with the expectation of me saying yes by how she was motioning towards the machine and me as if I was going to get off the machine. I said I'd like to finish my last set and I'll only need about 30 seconds to break (since the weights were light enough). She responds with a very faint "oh" and her and her client go radio-silent. She either forgot or doesn't care that she solicited me once to be one of her clients. With this very last interaction I had with her, she made it very clear that she does not and will not care about you in any capacity if you don't take up on her services and perhaps you are finished training sessions with her. I'm really glad I never reached out to her, after she tried to do the whole "girl-power" scripted sales...
Read moreI like Equinox a lot and have used most of their Manhattan facilities and many in other cities. Compared to a NYSC, this would have 5 stars, but it doesn’t measure up to most Equinoxes.
It’s clean enough, but I notice dirt that I don’t see in other EQs. The cycling studio is crowded and has bad ventilation. It has two stretching areas, but they’re both small and under-equipped. It used to have a great salad and healthy hot meal bar, but they replaced it with a Juice Press. It’s the best Juice of any Equinox: there’s space for them to prepare food not available at other JP outlets, but it used to be so much better. There were lines for salads, now it doesn’t seem used nearly as much.
The two floors are windowless, but organized really well, especially given the space. Staff is great. It being Midtown, the midday/lunch hour classes are generally full and there are shower lines in the men’s locker room....
