I usually don't give reviews. I'm a reader, not a writer. However, I feel compelled to at least say something. This is not my first time to Fringe. This was, however, my first haircut with Jenn. After my experience, I'm definitely not going to use Jenn again. I may not come back to Fringe (it is very out of my way). I liked my previous haircut with another stylist, however, she wasn't available. I was in desperate need for a haircut. I probably should have waited or read the yelp reviews first. She was the one available, and I jumped at the appointment. My mistake.
I got there for my appointment and sat down. Waited about 5-10 minutes for her to come up, which was perfectly fine. When she came up, she barely looked at me...barely smiled. Actually, when she came up to my chair, her head was turned to the side...she was looking to the side for a good 30 seconds to 1 minute before turning to me and introducing herself. I introduced myself. She asked what I wanted...and that was virtually the end of our conversation. Maybe I'm unusual and need someone warmer in personality. Maybe I need the small talk. After I got done, that's what I figured it was. I figured it was just me. However, I don't think it was just that.
The haircut: I have a lot of hair, and I haven't had one hair stylist tell me I don't. Actually, that's usually the first thing they say. I don't think I've ever had a haircut that took such little time. It probably took about 15-20 minutes...probably less since part of it is just her blow drying my hair. The whole thing felt very rushed. She didn't asked me how I liked the length. She didn't check my hair over after she cut it. I don't think she ever really listened to me. I asked for side swept bangs...and she parted my hair in the middle, and cut one side. She actually suggested side swept in the beginning, but my hair didn't end up with side swept bangs. Good thing I have a lot of hair where i can cover that up. In attempt to talk with her, I asked her a few questions, but she didn't even really listen to my questions because her response didn't answer my questions. Again, I figured, ok it's fine.
However, fast forward a couple days, i washed my hair, dried it, styled it...and then I look in the mirror...and it's UNEVEN! To make sure, I ask my husband, "Is it straight?" He knows nothing about hair, but he said, "there's a chunk or two sticking out in the back." I actually had to have him attempt at cutting it because I work over 80 hours a week, and I don't have time to go all the way back there for a touch up.
That's what encouraged me to write this review. This review is mainly about Jenn. My last experience with Fringe was fine. This time, I paid 95 dollars for uneven hair plus the tip?
I gave 2 stars because of the nice ambiance of the place and because of my positive previous experience. They did ask me if I wanted anything to drink, which was nice. I thought about giving 1 out of 5...but I couldn't get myself to do that. I feel badly for writing such a negative review, but I felt the need to let others know my experience.
Based on other reviews, the other stylists seem great. Jenn was not. Perhaps, it was just a bad day on her part. Perhaps, I'm being picky. Who knows, however, I have uneven hair which is...
Read moreUpdated Review: I'm updating my review to reflect the company's response and resolution. Initially, I posted a negative review (see below) due to an unsatisfactory hair coloring experience. However, I want to acknowledge that Fringe reached out to address my concerns and provided a full refund for my visit. While my experience with the balayage was disappointing, I am impressed that they took the initiative to rectify the situation immediately. This shows a commitment to customer service and resolving issues.
This was my second visit to Fringe LES. My first experience was with a stylist that wasn't a good fit. I decided to give the salon another chance and booked with a different hairstylist who was available on short notice. While she was very personable, the results were far from what I expected. I'm a brunette and went in for a haircut and a partial balayage. The haircut itself was great, but the balayage was a major letdown. I requested a balayage with subtle blonde tones, specifically showing pictures and emphasizing that I wanted to avoid both brassiness and an overly silver blonde. After several hours, the color was so dark it was barely noticeable. When I expressed my concern, she reassured me that the toner was a mix of warm and ash tones and would become more visible over time. Despite my previous balayage/highlight/ombre experience telling me otherwise, I appreciated her work on the haircut and blowout and wanted to remain positive, so I left a generous tip. Immediately after, my friends commented that it didn't even look like I'd had my hair colored. Trying to stay optimistic, I waited a few weeks to see if the "lightness" would develop. Unfortunately, it's now been several weeks, and my hair is extremely brassy with orange/red undertones. This is easily one of the worst hair color experiences I've had. For $400 plus tip, I expected much better results. I won't...
Read moreI lived in Texas for the past 35 years. Came to NY to celebrate my mom's 85th birthday for what was supposed to be 5 days. Due to an unforeseen medical emergency (my mom's) I had a change of plans and have to be here (lower east side manhattan apartment) indefinitely. I was in desperate need of a haircut, aesthetically, but also needed a mental and emotional pick me up. I came across Fringe by googling. There were 2 stylists available on the day I had some free time. I said let's try Joe C based on some reviews. This was the smartest decision I have personally made since I've been here (now 2 dang months)! I went to see Joe 2 times. First appointment was for a shaping, 2nd we went with a cut in a new style. I have been to many many many of the best salons over the past 35 years (texas size dollars spent folks) in Houston and none can compare to the cut Joe has given me. It complements my features and quirks (taxi cab door ears here). Joe takes the time to listen to what type of hair style you are hoping to achieve, whether it's complimentary to your features and works with texture of your hair. Then he gives positive input for what type of cut is realistically possible. I highly recommend Joe C (@hairbyjoenyc). The salon and everyone that works there is positive, friendly and has really good vibes. A triple...
