Been using gemini for a couple of years. About six months ago, I get a weird email from them asking me all sorts of personal questions (I had already passed KYC about a year earlier.
Questions included:
How did you acquire your crypto? What was the source of funds? Does address xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx belong to you? What do you use the proceeds for?
I answered "none of your business" for all of them, and let them know "if this is going to be an issue, let me know and I'll use a different service"
I got no reply.
Fast forward to today. It has now been over 1 month since I PURCHASED a fraction of a bitcoin for five thousand dollars, and I am blocked from being able to send it out of the gemini wallet. All emails (7 or 8 now) have gone unanswered.
Luckily it was only 5k, but I still filed a complaint with the SEC...
If you value your assets, use a different service
5 MONTH LATER UPDATE:
notified the IC3 investigation team headed by the FBI, then let Gemini know about it (still had never received a response). Within an HOUR, they are emailing me back, with all sorts of stories and b.s., like they emailed me back in August that my account was determined to be "risky" or some b.s. (coinbase, binance, bitrue, kucoin, kraken, etoro, etc. have had ZERO issues, and they use chainalysis).
They refuse to forward the email they claim they sent, they can't answer why my account is still open when the phantom email supposedly gave me "the standard" 5 days to convert and withdraw months ago. Also refused to tell me why I have to pay the $100 transaction fees to convert back to fiat rather than just let me withdraw my bitcoin. Also wouldn't answer why they didn't block deposits, only withdrawals.
Any way you slice it, Gemini is a TERRIBLE exchange...
Still waiting for them to reply to this like they did others....
Read moreWould not recommend. After successfully testing to make sure the wire deposit system worked well, I initiated a second large sum wire transfer and have never seen it hit my Gemini account. I have confirmed with my bank everything was correct
I have contacted Gemini support which while I understand is busy, should not take more than a day or two to respond. The phone number listed for support on the Gemini website is also useless as it only plays a recording telling you to contact the support via website.
I switched to Gemini from other exchanges because they were a large exchange and seemed to be reputable, however it seems to be a mistake.
2/10 would not recommend, only getting two stars because their website interface and app UI is decent everything else including support has been a let down.
Will update if I ever hear back or issue gets resolved
Update: issue has been resolved, once contacted by support they were incredibly helpful...
Read moreItâs been 22 days and waiting....and still not verified. Opened my account and deposited Bit Coin twice. I can see my balance but unable to do anything else. I have received two emailâs stating my bank deposits have processed and is available for withdrawal. Not true! My funds are not available and my account is still waiting to be verified. This makes no sense. Iâve sent two emails to support and have received two automated responses. Terrible way to do business.
Gemini is one of the few exchanges available in Hawaii. I am sooo dissatisfied!!!!
I will update this review when I have resolution. I hope to have better things to say about Gemini.
Update: I am verified and the system works well. Gemini did not scam me - it took 25 days to get my verification. My advise to all is to not deposit a large amount to begin. Go small and wait to be verified....
