I'm just not crazy about Shake Shack, but I was hungry and will not go there again. I had to self order and pay with a card-the picture s were not appetizing, friendly or helpful. I waited about 15 minutes for one undersized chicken sandwich and am glad I did not order more as the wait might have even been longer. It was about $8 and was nearly the size of a fat slider. There was lettuce and a not bad herb mayo, but due to the amount of grease I am not sure it needed any additional lubrication. I can't fault the 'egg' bun, but the chicken was compressed meat-cmon! I still hold that Wendy's uses real chicken breast (always has) and the price is comparable. You can get a McDonalds compressed chicken sandwich off the value menu. Having eaten this one small sandwich all day, I was surprised to have my belly swell up as though I had eaten a horse- does anyone know what causes this??? Anyway after the stench of it has filled my neighborhood I. Greenwich Village at 3rs and 9th Street since last year, I have been meaning to complain. There are a lot of people who find the smell of cooking meat offensive. They ought or be reported and forced to fix the ventilation or quit spraying that scent. There are plenty real food places, even delis, aroud, so it is a shame to put them right across the street from a dorm where students have debit and credit cards if they is why they make it so easy to take your money. The face of Wendy's is a girl, the face of burger king is it's namesake, the face of McDonalds is a clown, and the face of Shake Shack is your debit card $$$! Use your technology to find a real hamburger or chicken sandwich in NYC! You won't have to walk more than a block. I promise. Like this if you are against...
Read moreVisiting NYC from Western Pennsylvania, this country mouse and his son were recommended Shake Shack by a New Yorker: she referred to it as "well-priced almost not fast food burger", so we put it in our list of dining options.
Walking in, there were some digital ordering stations, most of them covered up out of order. While we were trying to figure out the menu and how to order, guy on the cash register told us we could either use the ordering machines, or just tell him what we wanted. He asked for a name for the order.
We ordered two shake shack burgers, and I had the lemonade. Burgers were cooked medium, and beef was flavorful. Two patties were on the burger, and buns were steamed.
The cons was how greasy the entire setup was: the sandwich will drip grease, I'm guessing they used 80/20 beef at the very least, or even something fattier. I don't mind greasy burgers, so it was fine with me. Another issue was the size: these burgers, while tasty and honest, are smaller than Big Macs (in diameter). You won't be hungry when you finish, but you're probably not going to feel your stomach stretch either. Perhaps it was because our meals did not come with fries (which by the way, you must order as a side if you want them).
I would equate this to a Five Guys experience: solid burgers, but a bit overpriced for what you get. On fries, Five Guys will overwhelm you with their fair-style fries, while the French-cut ones at Shake Shack looked just like the very average fries you see everywhere. Not a terrible deal for eating in New York City though, and there are multiple locations spread...
Read moreI recently brought my kids to enjoy a wonderful dinner at this place, and it was a fantastic experience. They ordered the Chicken Shack Burger along with some Spicy Korean BBQ Cheese Fries and iced tea. Let me tell you, both the food and the overall atmosphere exceeded our expectations.
The Spicy Korean BBQ Cheese Fries were a delightful treat. The crispy crinkle cuts were perfectly cooked and had just the right amount of crunch. Topped with a generous amount of cheese sauce spiced with kimchi seasoning, these fries were bursting with flavor. The side of Korean BBQ sauce added a tangy and savory kick that took them to the next level. It was undoubtedly a hit with all of us.
As for the Chicken Shack Burger, it quickly became a favorite among both of our kids. The crispy, white-meat chicken breast was cooked to perfection and had a delicious crunch. It was served on a toasted potato bun, topped with lettuce, pickles, and a flavorful buttermilk herb mayo. It's safe to say that our kids, who are highly recommend trying this burger.
In addition to the fantastic food, the staff was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the kids felt comfortable and had a great time.
