We had a Harlem tour booked and were awfully disappointed. It is Sunday April 7 and we got there on time. Our guide was looking somewhat filthy, but we trusted to get into yet another good tour. We spent the furst 2 (of 4) hours in the church. Whereas the gospel choir was fine, the whole community announcements got boring at a certain stage. The guide had promised some historical information, started to brabble on with the arrivals of the Dutch and actually never got to the point. We were under the impression that he did not have accurate knowledge of the facts concerHarlrm's history. I could have gone to church without paying 45$. No recommendation whatsoever, I con sider it a rip-off

Booked a tour through TripAdvisor and had difficulties finding the starting point but found someone else in the same boat and turns out we were in the right place. Was confused at first by Neil as I thought he was some random homeless guy off the streets based on his attire on the day, but appearances were deceptive, and he was a very engaging, eccentric, and knowledgeable tour guide. We had a wander through all the historical spots in and around Harlem, and it was interesting to find out about the new wave of African immigrants as we strolled through the market. We saw Neil’s mum from her kitchen window too, hi aunty! Learned something new, great for the soul. Tour date 22/02/23

AMAZING tour! Highly recommended. Neal customized our tour as we ran into Korey Wise during the start of our tour, which led to exploring the Exonerated 5 and their path toward justice. His energy, enthusiasm, and love for Harlem and its people really made me fall in love with Harlem even more. We even supported local Black businesses during the tour which made it even more special.

What a WONDERFUL TOUR!!! I am a case manager for a youth group in NJ and was looking for something fun but educational for my students to attend. I could not have selected a better experience for them and ME! The tour guide Neal was very professional, informative, energetic and just engaging with our group. I think it made a difference that he is Made in Harlem, born in raised. I wasn't sure how my students were going to respond but as we walked thru Harlem and Neal began explaining all the history that we were never exposed to their faces just lit up with excitement. They began asking him questions and he had all the answers and more. I couldn't believe how he knew everything about Harlem and people in the community greeted him on the street. One of our ah! moments was being introduced to a ICON, a LEGEND who walked by us and we didn't even know until Neal pointed her out and introduced us to, Ms. Norma Jean Darden, know your history! First African American model to grace the European fashion runway for Versailles. We visited were Marcus Garvey delivered his great speech, visited the street where hip hop started, visited the home of the Powell family, strivers row, toured the Apollo. I must say I truly enjoyed the music that Neal coordinated with the sites, that was so creative and added such a nice touch to the moments in history. My students were so impressed and could not wait to share with their family, friends and even the Mayor of our town their Harlem tour experience. I would highly without any reservations recommend an suggest that anyone who wants to experience the real Harlem, please, please, please reserve your tour with Harlem Heritage Tours. You will never feel the authencity with anyone else. After I posted my day on facebook so many others responded that they also toured with Neal and enjoyed every second that they didn't want it to end. I can't wait to book another group! Every student that participates in my program will experience this tour. You can NEVER read this experience in any book, you have to reserve your feet to experience. I was...

If you're trinking about book something from Harlem Heritage Tours, just read the 1 stars reviews on Tripadvisor, they are true. I read that beforehand and yet I decided to give a chance to it. What a mistake!

I booked a Multimedia Civil Rights Tour for 02/05/2019, got the email confirmation and the guy simply didn't show up. The office was closed. I phonned them, got voice mail and then Neil called me and gave some excuse. I was in front of the building and he didn't even let me know in advance about the cancellation! We reschedule ir for today, 02/07.

Today I was there on time and again the office was closed! I had to call Neil. He arrived at 1:40pm for the 1:00pm scheduled tour and he didn't apoligize, in fact he didn't even mention he was very late.

Inside the office was a mess, everything thrown on the flour. Trash everywhere, openned bag of chips, used clothes on the chairs.

The tour starts inside the office by Neil pointing some buildings outside, no multimedia presentation at all.

We left the building and the guide called her "70 years old mom" to wave her hands in a high window of a building and kept telling us stuff about him, trying to proof he was raised in Harlem. Then we walked to some places where he basically pointing pictures saying "this is , that person is __" while reading the sentences underneath the photos.

Besides being poorly prepared to provide a historical tour the guide kept receiving phone calls and using his cellphone all the time.

Summing up, find another agency or just do a quick online reserch by yourself and you'll learn a lot more than spending time and money...

We came all the way out to Harlem, New York to find out more about the rich history and cultural heritage of Harlem. We actually got more then we expected. The city has many legendary and famous figures that has accociate whith the city. Muhammad ali, Malcolm x, Franck Lucas, Martin Luther King and many many more. Harlem was a big part of their lives at that time.

This is ia not an original bustour. This is a tour that you walk through all of Harlem so that you can capture and feel the historical events. The lecture also conatins very good music that conect the history of harlem.

Neil Shoemaker, the tour guide, is born and raised in Harlem so he knows almost everething about the history of this city and black history mixed with personal experience of being black in America in Harlem. The tour is long and very intresting. If you ever choose to go to Harlem, this guide is a must!
