The chicken brochette and the grilled chicken are excellent dishes. The brochette are char-grilled and so tasty. Both dishes are served with a side dish of onions in a slightly spicy herb sauce that is amazing. I am not very familiar with Senegalese food, but those onions in sauce are incredible - prepare to be wowed by that flavor. The side salad is fresh, huge and comes with a delicious lemony dressing.
These dishes are under $15 and will easily make two meals (or more) for most people, making this an incredible deal.
We have not tried other items on the menu besides the house made sweetened juices. They have three of them, and they are all delicious and seem to be all natural - just juice and sugar. Baobob tastes kind of like a peach or apricot and kind of creamy. Bissap resembles cherry juice. The ginger drink has nice bite, like a non-carbonated ginger beer.
They seem a little disorganized at times for takeout - you may have to wait some time for food you called in earlier even if you do not arrive early. Nonetheless the people that work there are so nice. One time they were having trouble with their card machine and we had no cash, so they just let us go and asked us to pay for it next time. The place has a nice family and...
Read moreAs a self proclaimed cupcake fanatic (I literally get cupcakes every single weekend..) I appreciate this bakery.
With so many red velvet reviews, it was obvious what my order was going to be. Red velvet and peanut butter swirl!
The red velvet cake itself was moist and tasty. The frosting was on the lighter side for cream cheese frosting, but still good. The flavor paired perfectly with the cake. The peanut butter swirl cupcake was rich and delicious! I loved that the peanut butter in the middle was crunchy. However, I think I like the ron bennington at Molly's better though.
Update: Got the Brooklyn Blackout. WOAH! Chocolately bliss. Normally I don't like chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting, but this cupcake was perfection. I honestly think it was better than the peanut butter filled cupcake because the pudding made it much more moist and soft. DELISH!
That being said, I wouldn't say these cupcakes are mind blowingly amazing and better than magnolias and sprinkles like other reviews say. They are definitely good; but I...
Read moreThe cuisine of West Africa has layers of nuances. It is slow cooked with passion and has been shaped by history. Someday, hopefully I will make it to West Africa. I look forward to that experience. I cannot wait to try the authentic and undiluted Jollof Rice, Cest Bon, Thieboudienne, Yassa, Mafe etc.
I am currently obsessed with Dibi Senegal. It is a street food. It is essentially charcoal grilled lamb chops which post grilling is doused in a tangy, spicy mustard sauce, garnished with sliced onions, wrapped in a parchment paper and then thrown in a wood fired oven.
Dibi Senegal is served wrapped in the parchment paper (straight out of the oven), along with bread and Sosa Kaani (an incendiary sauce made from Scotch Bonnet peppers).
The best Dibi Senegal (in our area) I have found is at Le Baobab Gouygui (120 West 116 St NY).
BTW on Monday Le BaoBob offers Cest Bon made with fish, shrimps and vegetables. It is a smoky flavored Seafood Paella...
