Make My Fish — Restaurant in New York

Ever since my favorite fish restaurant closed, I’ve been searching for a replacement. I’ve heard good reviews about Make My Fish and decided to give it a try. When I arrived to the restaurant it was a bit crowded which I took as a good sign. The staff member taking the orders did so quickly, I waited less than 5 minutes to place my order. The staff member who took my order was very polite and professional. It took me less than 10 minutes to receive my order. I was pleased with the fast service. While waiting on my food I noticed a staff member stepped outside. He then came in and used hand sanitizer than put on gloves and got right back to work. Make sure you have cash on you because the restaurant only accepts cash. There is an ATM in the restaurant as well in case you don’t have cash on you. I ordered the whiting fish dinner with baked macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and candied yams. I appreciated getting actual whiting fish as some places say they have whiting but gives tilapia instead. There were about 7 pieces of fish. The fish was filet in which I love because I don’t have the time or energy to pick through bones. The fish was seasoned with too much black pepper, I’m not a black pepper fan as I think it’s too spicy for me. My mom loves her food with lots of black pepper and she even said it was too much black pepper for her. The yams were bland, too hard and crunchy, they weren’t cooked long enough. The macaroni and cheese had a weird taste to it was very bland. The collard greens the best side out of the three. It was cooked well and had a lot of flavor to them. Out of 5 stars, I would give: the food a 2½, customer service a 5, wait time a 5, overall rating would be a 2 because the wait time and service was pleasant. Was looking for something to eat online and this popped up. I had been craving a fish sandwich for a couple weeks too and was unable to get that craving satisfied. I read the reviews and said I'm trying them! That was the best decision ever!!! I ordered the Triple Play which has whiting catfish and shrimp. I did NOT wait to get home I opened the bag right in the truck! Not too mention my no eating policy😂😆🤦🏾‍♀️. Crispy meaty flaky just a bag full of deliciousness and plenty food to feed 3-4. I also ordered a few sides. Mac and cheese yams and collards I tried to get the potato salad but they were sold out. The mac and cheese wasn't bad the greens they weren't bad they were just missing something. The yams, well...I like sweet yams. They are not sweet enough. I don't like feeling like my teeth are going to fall out but I do like a little sweet. almost as sweet as you would put in a pie. They were not that. So if you are looking for sweet potatoes that's not them maybe it was just that day however that fish and shrimp... Honey it's worth a trip!!! So I'm a Queens person that wanted some good old fried fish from Harlem. I saw this place on IG and decided to take the drive. Ok so parking is not the best, but if you bring some one with you so you can run inside then you should be fine. Otherwise, you will have to park a block away and walk. Now lets get into the establishment when you walk in the location it will be crowded, but the line moves fast and the wait is not too long. I will say the lady that took my order was nice and didnt rush me; which i appreciate. She even suggested their 3 flavored drink and it was good. (10/10) I ordered the fried shrimp, fish and fries. (8/10) and a fried fish sandwhich. I trired the collard greens (7/10) the mac and cheese was good (8/10) I definitely prefer the fried shrimp, but everything was fried nicely. The shrimp were a good size and the fries were tasty. I just wish it had a little bit more old bay or cajun seasoning on the fish and shrimp.
