My family hired Home Instead in Manhattan to take care of our elderly father who lived in an apartment with his partner. Myself and my siblings all lived far from NY - Los Angeles in my case. Dad was nearing 90 and needed daily care, but he adamantly did NOT want to go into a nursing home. We understood and hired home care through Home Instead to keep him at home with his loved one and this worked beautifully. We had Trina, an absolute treasure, during the week, and Joseph, a kind and patient man, on weekends. My father, a curmudgeonly old sports writer, was not easy to handle, but Trina was patient, kind, funny and she loved Dad despite his foibles. He absolutely adored Trina and would do for her what he would not do for us (like wear clean clothes). Dad went into the hospital in in late January and we all flew in to be there as much as we could, but we kept the Home Instead support throughout his stay so that he always had a familiar person at his side. This made all the difference. He passed peacefully on Sunday morning and three of his kids were with him. Trina had cared for him all week and she is like a sister to us now. We love her dearly. I want to thank Home Instead and their office staff, including Balbina, for constantly remaining in contact in all situations, including changes in schedules, medication issues, etc. This gave us such peace of mind with dad so far away. Home Instead proved to be an incredibly reliable service for my father and his spouse for more than two years. At first we utilized them 5 days a week, but over time this grew to 7 days a week as their help proved to be invaluable. From simply providing compassionate care to help with walks, meal preparation, bathing, managing prescriptions to so much more, Home Instead was there for my dad when my siblings and I simply couldn’t be there. Home Instead was an amazing partner, providing reliable daily care for my parents for over 5 years. The aides they provided were always kind and helpful and the agency was very accommodating to my parents’ difficult personalities, finding replacements when a particular aide was not a good match. They reliably found substitutes when someone called out and sent nurses to check in on my parents periodically and when they were ill.
