Crumbly Cafe & Bakery — Restaurant in New York

I REALLY wanted this to be a positive review as I love supporting local business over chain bakery’s. Unfortunately due to the experience I had with this bakery who did my engagement party cake, I had to share so others can go in knowing what I now know.

I had a very specific vision for my engagement party cake, went into Crumbly a month before the event and spoke with the 2 workers to make extremely clear what I wanted. They were super nice, said it was no problem at all to do a vintage heart shaped cake that said “engaged” in gold script letters. The day of our engagement party when we go to pick up the cake, the gold lettering was very unprofessionally written on the cake- the lettering uneven so they added in a heart at the end of the word (which I did not ask for), the lettering was smushed together you could barely read what it said.

They shared with me that the gold lettering I requested is extremely difficult to work with (why they didn’t share this with me in advance so I could pick another color for the writing to be in I am not sure). Hours away from my event, I ask them to redo the lettering IN WHITE. I specifically told them to let go of the gold since this clearly wasn’t working out.

2 hours later we go back to pick up the cake, they redid the lettering and wrote the word engaged in white and then attempted to trace over it with another gold icing (that ended up looking like cheerios) after I specifically requested them to NOT attempt any more of the gold. I was very upset as they clearly were not listening to any of the specific instructions I was asking for & the cake did not turn out how I was expecting it to.

This was not a good experience with this bakery on the day of our event as it created a lot of stress & negatively impacted our day. Just want others to be aware of this as well if they are thinking of working with crumbly for an upcoming event to prevent others from being as disappointed as we were!

We have been regulars at Crumbly Bakery since they opened in 2021 and can't believe we haven't written a review for them yet. We've tried nearly everything in that glorious case and our go-tos are coconut cake, chocolate cake, carrot cake, Nutella cookie, pistachio lime cake, coffee cake, brownie, and bran muffins. You can't go wrong with this incredible family owned establishment baking a huge selection of treats so try it all.

Last year we started fostering dogs from NYCACC, both our fosters arrived needing time to decompress and regain confidence in humans. The Crumbly family helped these dogs come back to life with pup cups and pets. By the end of month 2, they would start wiggling in excitement walking into Crumbly and try to jump on the counter to greet the owners. Crumbly Bakery is the absolute BEST!!! I ordered a cake for my daughter's 26th birthday with a "Friends" theme. I sent many pictures of what I would like and had a lot of specifics about the cake. Mia, the owner, could not have been nicer! I called and texted so many times and she had the patience of a saint. I spoke to Stephanie as well, and she was also so kind and patient. Mia sent a picture of the cake when it was finished and it was incredible!!! They did an excellent job on every detail and made it exactly as I had asked. My daughter and her friends said not only was the cake fabulous on the outside but absolutely delicious on the inside!
