Buyer beware of this Key Food Supermarket. I usually do not like to shop at this Key Food supermarket because I've had bad experiences in the past but never bothered to say anything until today. I went in to see if they had 7up or Sprite on sale. They did have Sprite on sale 4 for $7 (see picture) so I put four in my cart and took a picture of the label in case the person at the register questioned the sale price. I didn’t want the person at the register to have to leave their spot or to have to call someone to confirm the price. This is something you just learn to save time when you buy things that are “on sale.” At the register, I noticed that each soda was over $3.00. I told the girl at the register that the sodas were on sale and that there was a sale sign. Right away, she called out for the manager and said price check. I told her that I took a picture of the sign and showed it to her. Since no one came after she called her manager, she left her spot and went searching for the manager. She had not gone that far from me when she spotted the manager and another worker coming back from the same aisle where the sodas were. She was about to repeat her question to her manager but before she could finish her sentence, he replied right away, “no, they are not on sale.” She turned to me and said, "maybe that's an old label" I told her that I had checked the dates on the label, and it was correct. She asked me to take her to the area where I got the sodas from, and I did. When we got there, the label had been removed (see picture). I was shocked and showed her the time and the date of the picture I had just taken. She had nothing to say to me other than "I don't know". I said "wow, this is really deceiving" so I took another picture where the sale label was. I was still in shock when we got back to register and just decided to let it go. So, I asked the girl to take the sodas out and to continue scanning the rest of my groceries. Then, I noticed a bag of tangerines and vegetables that were on sale were also ringing up at a different price than the sale price. I asked the girl to please take those items out as well. In frustration, I commented to her "I guess those items probably have an old sale label as well". As I was packing my groceries, I remembered an encounter I had just had with some lady who had asked me to reach for a container of cheese that she couldn’t reach. That lady said to me, “can you please reach that container of cheese for me? I only buy items that are on sale” to which I replied “that’s why I’m here also, I can’t afford to buy things that I really want. I only buy groceries that are on sale.” I’ve learned to notice when places like this supermarket are taking advantage of their customers, and I try not to be a victim. Then I thought about the woman I had helped earlier. Would she notice if the groceries that she thinks she’s buying on sale are really coming up as that, probably not. This is the reason I decided to write this review about this Key Food supermarket. I don't know how they can deceive their customers like this and get away with it. They are heartless. Shame on...
Read moreThe manager is definitely trying - nice guy, but... The majority of staff tends to be rude & dismissive at times (except maybe the owner/manager’s son). Stock is always weird (over abundance of certain items, in several locations of the store). But definitely not enough variety of options, in ALL departments.
Funny, someone mentions the Dominican staff being a plus, but they barely carry minimal Latino food staples (try getting 80% of anything necessary for pasteles, empanadas, quipes... I’ll wait).
I haven’t seen the expired meats/baby food mentioned, but again - super slim pickings... Also, do be wary of anything perishable on sale, here.
The only reason I’m stuck with some loyalties to shopping here, is the pure lack of competition for another place on my way home from the...
Read morePrices are higher. Deli quality is not good. Recently, Windex was being used to clean around open deli salad items. I asked why this was done and got a look. Cleaning should only be done when no food is there at all. Rotisserie chickens are overcooked and dry. Coupons are not always honored. I had a coupon for a case of pet food, 24 cans. I took 24 cans off the shelf, but not in a box. The manager refused to honor the coupon for the amount noted. He would not get me an unpacked case. That isn't very accommodating, is it? I only shop here out of necessity and will not buy from the deli at all. This store used to be better. UPDATE: Prices seem even higher. I only come in to buy the few items no other store carries or for a great sale. It's...
