I reserved a table for my partner's 30th birthday, it was a table of 8 but it ended up being 10 people. The night was great with a couple of mishaps.
Ambience: As soon as we walked into the restaurant we were greeted by attentive and friendly staff. We were escorted to our table, where our guests surprised my partner. The layout and look of the restaurant makes you feel like you're not in forest hills, its truly a beautiful restaurant.
Food: We were a large table, we got 6 appetizers to share (2 Rock Shrimp Tempura, 2 Tempura Samplers, and 2 Skewer Combo) and the food came out promptly and tasted even better! We each got a main entre, and the feedback was great, everything was flavorful and looked amazing!
Drinks: When a restaurant usually looks nice, the food or drinks are either bad, not this place! The drinks were great, the table had a mix of margaritas, lychee martinis, Moscow mules, and light refreshments; everything tasted great! Good ratio between alcohol and flavor!
Service: From the very start, our waitress, Linda, was attentive and gave the table a couple of recommendations from the menu (its extensive). She was diligent and ensured that we always had what we needed. All of our food came out in a reasonable time and was served at the same time.
Mishaps: It was a surprise birthday dinner, when we were done with our entre, Linda (waitress) deliberately asked the birthday boy if he was ready for the birthday cake (it was supposed to be a surprise). Once we sang Happy Birthday we gave them the cake to cut. We bought a cake from Martha's Bakery, so it's pretty big, we were served roughly 1-2 inches slices, 10 slices for 10 people. When we asked for the rest of the cake to be bought out, they bought 5 more slice. It's more Principle over Matterl, but they said that they had cut all the slices from the cake and there was no more. There's no way only 13 little slices came out of our cake, there was definitely more than half the cake left.
Overall, we had a good time, we'd be back for dining on a...
Read moreAs a modern Asian fusion restaurant I do think they do well in terms of flavor and authenticity as none of the food tasted boring. I do have an issue with not being served water when you sit down and having to ask for it. A glass of water should be a basic necessity like a fork and a knife.
For two people we spent about 135$. Considering we came the Wednesday before thanksgiving and they were doing as special. I did find the menu to be quite expensive. 19$ for all cocktails. They also did not have the Peking duck, the one dish I was looking forward too. 4pm on a Wednesday with no Peking duck which is suppose to be a highlight. Very disappointed. If you want real authentic Asian food I dont think this is the place for you as it's a fusion so there is that American twist.
Thai sea bass and prawns was perfectly cooked, the sauce was interesting and I didn't love it or hate it. It was like a sweet and sour sauce. The Mongolian skillet chicken was flavorful but it was also nothing special. A nice go to item. Sushi tasted fresh and was full of flavor .
Atmosphere and ambiance is nice and clean and trendy. I did find the staff to be helpful and polite.
Overall forest-hills on this little strip has a lot of options, this is a spot you come to once in awhile for like special occasions if you want a different twist. In terms of options in the neighborhood there are way better priced restaurants for a simple date night for two people where you spend less then 100$ if that's your goal and get more bang for your buck. If they had the Peking duck available a more gourmet item I wouldn't mind the price point. 3/5 overall rating considering there are better options in the area at this price point but this is a nice spot if your not worried...

My waitress was extremely patronizing, rude and uninterested with my ordering needs.
Huge menu with mostly nothing to choose from only hot steaming attitude from my waitress.
Me. I’ll like to order this.
Waitress. No
Me. I’ll like to order that.
Waitress. No
Me. How about this one?
Waitress. Not available.
Also in the middle of me ordering, she did not given me the chance to finish. she interrupted me and hopped to an adjacent table to take an order from someone else. Rush, rush. rush.
I have even given the restaurant a second chance to earn my business by requesting someone else to be my waiter or waitress. But was served a tall glass of cold shoulder before getting denied by the seating staff member that night.
Wonderful, I paid for my super salty wanton soup which I had one taste of and afterwards made my exit to the restaurant on the right side of MOCA. Completely night and day experience, so relieved.
So much for trusting MOCA reviews and photos. In conclusion.
Dine at your own risk. WORST service ever and if you want to be treated well, I suggest the restaurant next door. BANGKOK CUISINE OR MAKE A TRIP TO MANHATTAN BECAUSE YOU WILL BE TREATED WITH RESPECT,Appreciation and professional customer service.
