Was this a perfect experience? No. But I’ve been wanting to try this, fearing it was a ramen chain experience. And it is a little bit, no shame, still enjoyed. Can here after a movie and ordered the lil sampler pictured as an appetizer. No drinks this time. 2 of the half and half ramen, half tonkatsu, half miso ramen both with perfect little egg halves. Atmosphere: Aesthetically it looks great, sort of a beehive configuration with multiple levels. We got the second level out of 3. The steps can get a little loud, not bad but noticeable. As a server myself? I would hate going up and down all them stairs with hot, heavy soup. But as the diner I thought it looked pretty cool. The servers seemed to be working as a whole team? Not a lot of interaction, I wasn’t mad about it. Just want some good food and it’s an odd set up so I get any delays. Food: Nice! The broth had depth, enough noodles even though I sort of know this split bowl jawn might be a monstrosity to true ramen fans which I couldn’t rank myself amoungst. And we liked all the appetizers. Even ordered more of the lobster ball thingies. (Maybe you guys should put two. We shared bc we are together? But they’re hard to split) Service: They did their best with the floor plan I’m sure. Our soups came out before the appetizer. They kindly took it back and sent out the apps and remade our soups. Even gave us both a nice loose leaf green tea. Very appreciative of how they handled all that. New soup, great app, lovely tea. Thank you staff. Good place, would recommend, maybe if you’re just jonesing for some...
Read moreI recently visited the newly opened Kyuramen in Forest Hills and unfortunately had a highly disappointing experience. The interior decoration appeared fresh, but the persistent smell of paint made it uncomfortable. Moreover, the staff insisted on seating us on the third floor, which had steep stairs and was far from convenient. The limited space on that floor was extremely cramped, lacking comfort even for someone with a slim build.
To add to the disappointment, the cutlery provided was unclean. When I unwrapped the spoon and chopsticks, they still had traces of chilly oil on them. I requested a replacement, but to my dismay, they handed me another set with red pepper residue. Despite their claim of having a dishwasher ready, it was an unacceptable oversight.
The food at Kyuramen was a letdown as well. The prices were unreasonably high for the quality provided. The noodles lacked texture, leaving them uninspiring and unremarkable. The soup, on the other hand, had an overwhelming flavor of MSG, which overshadowed any potential enjoyment. Overall, it was an experience that left me with no desire to return.
Kyuramen in Forest Hills fails to meet the standards of a satisfactory dining experience. From the inconvenient seating and unclean cutlery to the subpar food quality, this establishment falls short in multiple areas. I would not recommend visiting this place if you are seeking a pleasant and enjoyable...
Read moreI had take-out from other Kyuramen location before and did not like the food. But I understand Ramen taste better when dine in, so I tried this place out when I found out it open a location in my neighborhood, overall 3/5.
Food - I ordered chicken ramen, omurice, and crepe. The ramen did taste a little better comparing to my last take-out order, but overall the broth was bland with barely any flavor, not a typical Japanese style broth (did not try the traditional pork broth, which might be different.) Both omurice and crepe are medicore, 3/5.
Service - I have a mixed feeling about the service. There were more than 5 waitstaffs/hosts on the floor but the service was not efficient nor was it attentive. I had to wave down to get service but the staffs were definitely nice and kind. I understand it might take a while for the team to work out a more smooth operation, given this is a newly opened establishment, so I give it 4/5.
Ambience - interior concept is quite interesting and the whole place is nice and clean, good for picture taking. But I don't think it is small kid/elder friendly with the steep stairs, also not a good idea for waitstaff to serve the food, well, just saying, I guess the restaurant can figure out the last point.
Overall, this would not be my go-to place, in terms of food, but I'd return whenever I feel like having something different, I'd also recommend it to friends for something new and...
