Manhattan Mini Storage’s 18 facilities in Manhattan were purchased in November 2021 by StorageMart, a huge self-storage company headquartered in Missouri. Since then, MMS’s prices have gone up and service has deteriorated. For example, a free storage taxi, which had been an advertised feature of MMS’s services for years — available to help customers move their possessions to and from their home to their storage unit, has been eliminated. This was an important benefit to Manhattan residents, many of whom don’t own cars. The grace period for late payments was reduced from 10 days to three days without informing existing customers. Customer service is nonexistent and local facility managers have been robbed of their previous ability to work with their customers in any way that departs from StorageMart’s corporate rules.
SOMEONE FROM MANHATTAN MINI STORAGE (REPRESENTING THE OWNER) replied to my comments (above) by saying "We apologize for the inconvenience of no longer offering free shuttle services. This has been a perk our customers have enjoyed for many years but, unfortunately, is not sustainable for our business. We understand this news was shocking and appreciate your understanding." Actually, I don't understand this rollback in service. StorageMart purchased Manhattan Mini Storage for $3 billion so obviously has to make a lot of money to recoup this investment BUT Crain's New York Business published an article on March 21, 2022 entitled "$3B sale leads Manhattan's self-storage sector to most lucrative year on record." The article begins by mentioning Manhattan Mini Storage. Since StorageMart, the new owner of Manhattan Mini Storage, is one of the largest self-storage companies in the world and, as I previously mentioned, is headquartered in Missouri, StorageMart management may not fully realize that the loss of the free storage taxi was not just an "inconvenience" but a blow. Unlike Missouri, where car ownership is undoubtedly common, in Manhattan a great many people don't own cars and were depending on the free storage taxi, not as a perk but a necessity.
THE RESPONSE TO MY ORIGINAL COMMENTS CLAIMED THAT "All Manhattan Mini Storage customers were notified in advance of any changes to their lease." That is not true. There was NO notification that StorageMart had purchased Manhattan Mini Storage. There was NO new lease until after the March payment was due and NO notification that the grace period for late payments had changed from 10 days to three days. Comments on a public website revealed that I was not the only person to be blindsided by these changes. Numerous people commented that their efforts to reach "customer service" to straighten out these and other problems failed because apparently there is no customer service under...
Read moreI've been with Manhattan Mini Storage for almost ten years now, very friendly environment. I lost my home during supper storm Sandy and stored some of my undamaged stuff at Manhattan Mini Storage on Varig Street and later moved to their Spring Street Storage location. They have a new management, and have improved over the years especially with security. Before you had to scan your card to enter the building or your storage area which was good, but now you are provided with your personal entry code of which you can use with the key pad or just scan your cellphone for entry. (With 24hr entry). The only problem I had with the new management is that I wasn't aware that the payment deadline had changed and I was charged a late fee. I tried explaining to management but to no avail. It is very difficult when you are on a fixed budget. Apart from that this is a great Storage facility with other amenities. Thanks to Donna who has helped me with some of my questions and returned most of my calls. I have recommended my family and friends to this Spring Street Storage facility over the years and they keep coming back without complaints. And of course there is an App. Just download the Storage Mart App for your personal and business Storage. Thanks for...
Read moreUpdate: Since my measuring mishap, MMS have been very responsive, which is appreciated. These storage spaces and dimensions are all unique and I understand they can't provide detailed measurements for thousands of units. In most cases customers don't need them to, either. If you're uncertain whether your stuff will fit and it's down to the inch, however, I'd recommend heading in and measuring the actual unit first.

I want to like Manhattan Mini Storage more because they're a local family business and their ads are awesome.
Things is, I went to the trouble of measuring out my reserved storage locker dimensions (4' x 5' x 8') at home, and pre-packing it. As soon as I was shown the locker it was obviously smaller. When we measured it was 4'5". The depth and length were also way under. I get maybe the need to round it to feet only, just not rounding UP 4'5" to 5'.
When you can't fit a rolled up 5x8' floor rug into a 8' long locker, that's rough. I had to leave with some large items that should have fit in but didn't have a chance in a space smaller than advertised.
...All in all, it's a great company. Just don't expect precise measurements on-spec - go...
