WOW what a BAD Experience!!!!! This is a must read From wait staff the the Managment!!!! I went to Café Altro Paradiso more than two weeks ago. We was sitting at the table on the bar side of the restaurant with three other people hopefully in camera view. My friend who is a frequent guest of the the restaurant recommended to us. He then decided to take the lead on the wine selection. He loves a particular wine he always gets there. When he ordered it it was no longer available so he picked another bottle and that wine was no longer available.. So we decided on the third selection but this time they only had one bottle left. We took the last bottle. We needed to pick another bottle that was way way way more than we wanted to spend but we were with friends and we decided to do it. The Som navigated us towards a bottle that he said was best. So the Som opens the first bottle not at the table but away from the table and he did his normal taste of our wine. Then we proceeded to have the other bottle and does the same however he tasted our wine the took another glass and pour about another 3 ounces!?!? Oddly he then had another young lady come over and drink our wine?!?!?! As the Som noticed us watching him and his friend partaking more that 6 ounces of our wine that was again, more than we wanted to spend the Som took the glasses away from our eyesight and never came back to our table. The bottle was then placed on our table after that but another employee. I called the restaurant several times and after many attempts, I gave them my name and my number and said that they would get back to me. Days went by and nothing. I called a second time same thing but this time the woman said she was the assistant manager and she would have the Manager call me back. She said she was aware of this. She said the Manager would call back and show us what good service looks like. She repeated my name and my number. Weeks later no call, I even asked to repeat my number so they would get it right. So I ask anyone who is reading this, is this okay? No response? No cares? Weeks later still waiting for a response? I feel like there is a big...
Read moreI have been a long-time Estela fan so I was naturally anxious to get in at Paradiso. I made a very early reservation--5:30, and the restaurant filled up almost immediately. The hostess was very bubbly and on the ball-- which was refreshing as so many hostesses can leave a bad taste in your mouth. I had a glass of the Zweigelt at the bar, which I highly recommend, as I waited for my date. We were seated at a nice booth two top; the space is definitely far larger than Estela, however you are still dining in close proximity to other guests (we're in NY, folks). Our server, Ian, was lovely. His service was laid back yet proactive, he made suggestions but wasn't overbearing. I appreciated his input, as my date was celiac. We were pleasantly surprised when he informed us that we could still have pasta dishes and went with his suggestions with confidence. I particularly appreciated that Ian did not hover, but rather let us eat at our own pace--he paced our food perfectly and was very on top of keeping our drinks refreshed. Now, the food...I was a tad nervous as I've heard mixed reviews, but I have to say we were really blown away. Food breakdown: Fish Crudo: I loved this. It was packed with flavor and the texture was just right. Burrata: Delicious, yes, but not the most flavorful dish. Octopus: I was hesitant when I saw this was accompanied by chickpeas, but they were not overbearing, and they added an interesting texture to exquisitely cooked pulpo! Tagliateli: We had the gluten free version and it was still absolutely delicious! Swordfish: Estela's swordfish is one of my favorites, and still beats out this version for me, but it was still a delight! Panacotta: How could we not try it? Delicious and savory, just as hoped!
Yes, Altro Paradiso is pricy, but you know that going in. I did see a couple seated at a less desirable table who seemed to be enjoying themselves less and jostled at times, but my experience was excellent and ultimately I can only speak for myself! I will be recommending and I...
Read moreThis is my first ever 1 star restaurant review and while I didn’t really want to write this, I waited until the following day and still feel it’s necessary. This was the worst service I’ve ever experienced at a restaurant in my life. So much so i literally left in tears because i felt like it had ruined my boyfriends birthday. I brought my boyfriend here for his Birthday because he had been wanting to try the famous cacio e pepe. We got seated at the worst table in the entire restaurant. It was a 2 top table that they must have thrown in there for extra seating because it was surrounded but other larger tables and was literally in the walkway of all of the servers. It took 14 minutes before any server even acknowledged us. He came by and quickly took our drink order then we didn’t see another server for another 10 minutes after that and it was a different guy. He didn’t ask us what brought us in (i didn’t have the chance to say it was for my boyfriends birthday) and didn’t explain the menu at all. We order a meat plate as an app that came with cheese and bread and when my boyfriend asked if we could get bread instead of explaining that the $30 dish we ordered comes with bread and olives already, he put in an order for another bread that came with all of the same things. Neither of us realized that we would be charged for the bread. After our appetizers came we literally never saw a server again until the dishes were cleared and we were waiting for entrees that took another 20 minutes to come. A table of 4 next to us came in 40 minutes after us and had eaten and paid before our entrees even came. By the time our pastas came out we took 1 bite and asked them to wrap them up so we could leave. Never felt so invisible and awful at a restaurant in my life. $200 and many tears later i can’t say i reccomend this restaurant for anyone going for a...
