I recently obtained my first storage unit at 161 Varick Street ('Manhattan Mini Storage').
I was lucky enough to find Mr 'Willie Gamble' behind the desk. He was very accomodating and made the whole experience go very smoothly.
I very much appreciated the natural way he carries himself and his listening capabilities. Whenever there was a point that I didn't understand, he reformulated it patiently in a different way, without the slightest hint of being irritated. At the end, thanks to him, there was no confusion left hanging in the air or that needed a phone call to clarify.
Mr Willie definitely stood out, compare to the casual service provider, who manages to make the customer feel uncomfortable with fake smiles and servitude, or worse, acts like he is just selling another pop soda behind the counter of a bodega.
I hope Mr 'Willie Gamble' gets the recognition and advancement he naturally deserves.
Next week, I am taking a friend to get a storage unit at the same place. We shall deal with no other than Mr 'Willie Gamble'.
EDIT Sept 2025 : A while ago, that place changed ownership, they fired the staff I was aquainted with and the prices were hiked through the roof. So my original review is not valid anymore,...
Read moreI’ve been a customer of Manhattan Mini Storage for over 10 years. Yet, today I am disappointed. I moved into a new unit 8 months ago and discovered now after not visiting the unit for that period of time that all my items were covered in dust, dirt and pigeon excrements as the unit has an ac unit vent circulating dirt into it. Jose was so kind to offer me to move into a new even bigger unit yet told me the price would go up. I disagree that I store my items at my own risk so that they get destroyed. The point of having ac units is to prevent mold not to have my children’s toys, clothing, bedding etc covered in toxic waste. On another note. I slipped and fell in the Manhattan storage garage last week as they failed to mark a water leakage with signage, instead tried to cover it up with sand that just turned it into a muddy slippery mess. I’d refrain from moving my items here. They tell you to get insurance to cover your belongings if their establishment has pipe burst, water leakage or dirt incidences like mine. What’s the point of paying 100s of dollars in storage every month if your belongings aren’t protected by Manhattan mini storages...

I used Manhattan Mini Storage for many years before they were bought by Storage Mart.
I honestly was happy when I saw the unit and moved in. Immediately my first charge was higher than what I agreed to. I looked at my invoice and it included a charge for insurance. I spoke to them and they said that I had to prove I had renters insurance. This was something that no one mentioned to me. So I proved it and they removed it but had to pay for it up to that point. After being in the unit for 3 months I received an email that the price of the unit was going to increase a lot. . When I signed my agreement the person at the front told me I was lucky to be getting in in the winter because I would lock in a lower price for the year. Clearly not. I went in and spoke to the person at the at the front desk he said that every few months the price would increase but he could give me a discount so I could keep my price. I was annoyed. In the past the price was the price. One month later the price increased again. This...
