I’d give 0 stars if I could. Stay far away from this place. I had to go in 20 times between March and October for one tooth. It started out as putting in an onlay for one of my molars. I had a temp in for a few weeks while we waited for the onlay. The onlay was the wrong color so we had to wait another few weeks for that to come in. The temp kept falling out during this time, in which I had to keep coming in for emergency visits to fill the hole in my mouth. I couldn’t eat or drink when this would happen because of the sensitivity. Finally, the onlay is ready after 3 more weeks of waiting. The glue/cement ended up turning brown that day, in which I had to come in to see if it was something that could be cleaned off. It wasn’t, it was a malfunction with the cement/glue/whatever they used. We then decide to do a crown. I felt discomfort from the crown initially, which was expected. However, this grew into agonizing pain after a week. I went to an ER dentist in my hometown, they assumed it was excess cement from the crown causing the pain. It wasn’t. Since I wasn’t in NYC, I had to wait to get back in town. Once I got back into town, I had an appointment lined up to FINALLY find relief from this pain. At this point, I started to feel swelling coming on, nerves were reacting, etc. I have a high pain tolerance; however, this pain was unbearable to the point of sobbing tears. I explained all of this in detail to my dentist. I was very thorough with my symptoms, level of pain, amount of disruption it was causing, etc. Their response? A fluoride rinse. I was leaving the country later that day and was clear that I needed a resolution before my flight. I was only in NYC for 48 hours, this visit was my priority. Unfortunately, the pain, swelling, discomfort had multiplied by the time I got to the airport for my trip. It was a miserable experience. I ended up needing to get an emergency root canal while abroad because my face blew up. I couldn’t move half of it either. Turns out, the crown killed my tooth. Since I couldn’t finish the root canal abroad, I came back to NYC with plans to finish the treatment with Tend. I told them everything previously stated. The manager at the time told me that they would apply the payments used thus far as a discount towards my other needed treatments (fillings); however, the root canal can only be done in their Flatiron location. Once quoted, I explained I cannot pay that right now. I was then guilted about this, super uncomfortable experience. I give it some time before calling their customer service department to report my experience. When returning to this office, I requested a new doctor. In that time between my last visit and then, that manager is no longer working there so their previous offer was not honored. I obviously decided I wasn’t going to continue going here after this. I let customer service know that the only reason I was returning here was because of that offer.
This place is unethical. Stay far away. I wish I never stepped foot here, I’m still suffering from their terrible work. I had to go here so many times my dental insurance ran out for the year so I had to wait until 2025 to finish the root canal. We barely got through my treatment plan established in the first visit. We spent March-October on a...
Read moreThe dentist and dental hygienists are really great and the office is clean and comfortable- it’s the only reason I am still coming here.
Some of the front desk staff (of course not all!!!) - in particular Trevor, is extremely rude and unprofessional. This is the second time I had an encounter with him and both times have absolutely ruined my day. The first time in December 2023, after having several back and forth with tend over email to confirm my insurance prior to appointment, when I came in he tried to tell me they don’t have my insurance on file (even though both my husband and I have already been there before and used our insurance). It took 20 minutes to resolve and he was extremely rude to me and then did not apologize for his mistake. After the appointment he came in to talk about the “plan” and tried to pressure me into doing my filling before the end of the year (which I didn’t do because I was in my first trimester - I don’t owe him an explanation). I told him I am not interested in the night guard.
They try to sneak charges on you - especially the night guard. At every appointment they asked me about this night guard that I do not want and every time I said I don’t want it.
This time (today) I came in just for a filling, and Trevor says “you have an out of pocket payment of 650 dollars would you like to use the card on file? “ and unless I was really paying attention, I would have just said yes without realizing that that is for the night guard! I asked what it was for since I have insurance, and he’s like that’s after the insurance without specifying that it’s for a night guard that I don’t want. And he added “did they not go over the payment with you at the end of the appointment”? I said they did, and it was never over 600 dollars, I have specified many time that I do not want a night guard” he’s like “I was the one that went over it with you, and it says here you are likely not going to get one”. So then I was like why would you not ask me first if I am interested in the night guard before telling me I owe over 600 dollars for something that you already have in your notes that I do not want at 8:30 in the morning.
While I waited to be seen he did the same exact thing to the next patient. “You have an out of pocket of 923 dollars for this visit would you like to use the card on file? ” and the person says “wait what? I’m only getting one filling. “
Needless to say, he is extremely unprofessional, will not apologize for being wrong, and he is trying to scheme people to pay for this nightguard that...
Read moreI will say this about Hello Tend - not all that glitters is gold - their facility is very nice and updated and staff are very nice with good appt availability, but it’s obvious that this place cannot replace a good old school dentist. I came here initially bc I was having pain in my tooth, the dentist correctly said I needed a root canal but was pretty flustered and didn’t assess my other teeth that I asked about which could’ve been addressed during that visit. I was also told I was in-network but turns out on my second visit I was actually not in-network. Second visit- I booked a cleaning and when I get there they tell me that I also need to get XRs and dental exam and that this is non negotiable, so the cost goes from $300 to $900 with these hidden add-ons. Or note they 90% bc I was a new patient and I paid $70 but it’s the principle. I’ve never been to a dentist that MADE me get XRs and an exam that I didn’t want, even after I explained that I will not go them for any work since they are out of network. I was explained that it is a firm policy that I MUST get X-rays and a dental exam with my cleaning that this is mandatory even though I told them I am having a dental appt tomorrow and have already had a comprehensive exam and know what works needs to be done. When you go to the doctor for a specific thing there is no legal obligation for them to do additional testing. I spoke to the manager and their answer was we want to have a comprehensive assessment of the patient which is fine however in my case it made no sense since they will do nothing with this assessment and I showed them I have an appt tomorrow. This is a money scheme under the guise of patient care. Most of their dentists and hygienists are new grads which is ok but lack of experience clearly shows with these 2 visits. My hygienist was very nice which I do want to mention. Now they have 20 X-rays that they can throw out but more importantly they can bill for them and I can only now get the cleaning that I wanted. Is it nice to have a fancy office with my name on the screen? Yes. But I would rather have a quality place with policies that make sense or at least accommodate...
