From the moment we gifted our mother with a membership for Mother's Day to our first visit, that ended with shopping at the museum store, EVERYTHING was outstanding!
The staff deserves a resounding round of applause for their collective efforts of outstanding, professionalism, and warm-hearted engagement. Most notably, Giovanna Reid, whose outstanding customer service is spot on leadership and delivery of assistance, and uncompromising maintenance of service mission and reflection of the integrity of the late, great Jackie Robinson...
The Jackie Robinson exhibit left us breathless, humbled, proud, honored, strengthened, and inspired for all that he stood for, accomplished, and equally the legacy that he left behind.
Of equal mention, we were shocked and sickened by the inhumane manner in how he was treated... And reminded that while some atrocities have changed for the better, there remains much hatred, bigotry, increasing discrimination that continues throughout America, and the occurrences are not hidden. Nor are these egregious behaviors hidden. On the contrary. They are unmerciful, upclose, and purposely intended...
There is work to be done. Much work,...
Read moreGreat experience here at the Jackie Robinson Museum.
Decided to visit on a Friday in the early afternoon. It was very quiet there with only about 7-8 other visitors there at that time.
Tickets are $18 for adults and $15 for children. There are also some discounts available including Culture Pass throughout the New York Public Library Program...so be sure to check before you go.
The Museum is all on one floor but has lots of great informational exhibits. As the name suggests, it focuses on Jackie Robinson and takes you through his life and struggles as he excels through his baseball career. It also goes into his military experience, background in other sports and activism.
While it was still interesting for me, someone who isn't much into baseball, I believe this would be an absolute must for any baseball fan...moreso any Brooklyn Dodgers fan.
All staff I encountered includng security (bag check), registration desk, and gift shop counter staff, were very nice and helpful.
Easy access by Subway: one block from the 1 train and two blocks from the ACE trains, both at their respective Canal...
Read moreWhat a great museum. I'm not interested really in baseball or sports at all, but this is about so much more - you really feel inserted back in time to when the US was so much more blatantly racist, and the things Jackie (AND HIS AMAZING WIFE RACHEL) overcame, and how they became figures of such inspiration, is stunning. Today's world is still incredibly racist, so everything here hits home with an unsettling relevance. The museum is well designed, large and accessible, has some cool artifacts (I loved seeing the letters people wrote to Jackie, and his typewritten responses), well made short films, a nice timeline exhibit and some digital screens that really let you read deep on some topics. It was somewhat of a somber experience for me, but honestly unforgettable.
We were able to get free tickets on NYC Culture Pass (with...
