McNally Jackson Books Rockefeller Center — Local services in New York

Visited on Dec 2nd 2024 at noon, Had excellent service from a sweet young lady in bright green glasses, who helped us pick out fountain pens.

However at check out, a male staff standing behind the counter (not serving us) was utterly rude. My friends (of East Asian and West Asian descent, not that it should matter) was using CONTACTLESS Apple Pay. The staff kept asking us to tap to pay but the check out machine kept saying to “SWIPE OR INSERT” Causing some confusion. We didn’t have any physical cards with us. This completely uninvolved male staff came over to say “is it in French?” I find this rather uncalled for especially for someone working in the service industry.

Whoever is doing the hiring for this store, teach your staff to learn how to use your own product before stepping in to work and hire staff with basic manners if they’re gonna be on the front line serving customers. Won’t visit again solely because of the said guy in...

Very beautiful bookstore with many selections of every genre. Unfortunately I can't give it the full 5 stars because my family and I felt very unwelcome. An employee named Kas or Kaz had a whole attitude with my kids. I'm unsure what was the cause of the nasty stares we were receiving. My toddler is autistic and tends to scream sometimes of happiness and that employee gave the nastiest look to my child and roll her eyes. That employee later followed us to the kids section and spoke to us with rudeness about getting up off the floor. We are a Hispanic family and I'm unsure if race had anything to do with her treatment towards us but didn't make me want to set foot here again. I’m from the UK and I wanted to have a look inside more so as I’ve been dying to collect the NcNally Jackson press for ages not sure if they do them in the uk? So wanted to grab all the ones I’ve heard so much about. The store is beautiful. Reminds me of our UK bookshop Daunt books. Staff here are very very friendly and accommodating. I met the most lovely sales assistant Alex, who saw to my request and was very helpful. I would recommend going in there. This was one of the bookshops I’ve been dying to check out from the UK and so thankful to all the lovely staff there. It was nice chatting to staff too.
