Read moreMs. Little (the dean of the nursing department) gave my daughter a very difficult time. She would not allow her to make up an exam because she was late for the exam. The dean of the college was sympathetic enough to allow her to take the exam but after a private conversation with the dean of nursing, she unexpectedly changed her mind. Ms. Little then tried to fabricate a narrative to the people on the committee. She basically brainwashed the committee members because she is a tenured dean of the Nursing Program. Ms. Little basically determined her grade’s fate and no one else had an input into the decision. She further told her that she would get a failing grade and would not be able to attend another nursing school. My daughter was devastated, but I persuaded my daughter to leave the school and to attend another school which was far more prestigious. She took my advise and went to a different college. She said the professors were more professional, they ensure that the student understand the material taught by giving the students the resources to master the material. My daughter passed her classes with “flying colors”. Upon completion of the program, the students were well prepared and ready to take the NCLEX. This college was not in there for the money and to “weed” students out but rather to ensure the students are well rounded and ready for the state board. My daughter ended up being the Valedictorian of her class and she passed the state board exam on her first attempt. It is my recommendation that if you are planning to attend this school, you do not get sick, your family should not get sick and you do not have an emergency because your grade will be lowered by 10 points if you miss an exam. NO EXCEPTION. So familiarizing yourself with the policy will be critical. ...
Read moreIf you was smart, you would avoid this college at all cost. First thing first. They only have like 4-6 majors and want nearly $7,000. You can go to a community college and have 15+ majors for $2500. The students in Culinary Arts are stuck up, especially those who are in the Culinary Team and/or Teacher Assistant. Chef V is a hypocrite, bias and unprofessional. He really needs to be fired. Since when is it acceptable to be making racial slurs in a professional environment? Since when is it professional to talk crap about a student to another student who happens to be his/her friend? Chef V really needs to be fired and replace. He forget things in culinary 4 and let the students take the blame for his mistakes (what a man) He's old and it's time for him to retire. The dean is fine, OUTSIDE the kitchen. When he's in the kitchen he can be rude. Chef P is probably most claimed to be the loudest and hardest, but he's actually very cool. Chef Moon is the nicest, but he can also be a douche. Shamel was cool as a TA, but when he got a position as a professor/chef he became arrogant.
If you're going for pastry, I highly recommend you go to a different college. The thing is, the chefs at Monroe College are extremely bias to those who are pastry. A ton of my friends who were in pastry at Monroe told me how they really don't do anything for the students in pastry. They have a culinary team, but not a pastry team. Culinary students get extra classes while pastry students get basic cake...
