BEWARE OF FRAUD- NEVER EVER SIGN UP FOR THIS GYM! In short- they have stolen $712 from me back in Feb & Mar, and even though they admitted to it being an error (it's really fraud as the individual involved was fired for numerious related complaints) they have yet to refund my money 6 months later. Now for the detailed version...
I signed up for this gym in Feb 2014. In Apr I saw a charge on my credit card for $356 for March Personal Training, in addition to my monthly dues, and also noticed another $356 charge for Feb PT which I had missed. I never attended PT and called Corporate. They told me they had a signed contract under my name for PT. They sent me a copy of the contract & it was clear that the signature was not mine.
I went to the club and before I even spoke the ex-trainer Mike (now fired for fraud) he knew what this was about and informed me my refund was being processed already as it was a mistake. The fact he knew what was happening, but never informed me, made me not believe him so I went to the GM, Lakisha. She looked into it and told me they "accidentally" logged a PT session, with another person, under my name and they admitted to the mistake (Don't believe her but if it's true it's a huge flaw in their system- no check & balance). She told me she would submit a new refund (Mike was lying), which she even confirmed to me via telephone after she filed it.
I wait approx 4 wks, which is how long I was told the refund would take, and I call corp. and they tell me NO REFUND WAS PROCESSED (Lakisha was lying) and that I was going to be CHARGED AGAIN for Apr PT. I go back to the gym & Lakisha wouldn't see me. I called corp. and began the refund process AGAIN. This time I file a dispute with my Credit Card company as I have been out of $712 for about 4 months. The CC company responds back a cpl weeks later that NYSC sent them a contract w/ "my signature" (NYSC Sent Fraudulent Docs). I call Corp and they inform me that because I started a dispute they cannot issue refund, and that I would need to stop the dispute (makes 0 sense). I obliged, lifted the dispute and let them refund me directly.
I call back a few wks later (Now June) & they tell me refund was rejected because they have a signed contract! I tell them to contact the gym directly and speak to Lakisha, who confirmed its not my signature. Corp tells me the refund dept doesn't do that (what?). Call Center agent files a new dispute and finally the gym called me. A new head trainer informed me Mike was fired due to fraudulent practices. They took my side of the story but I have yet to receive my refund. They STOLE my money for now 6 months and I am STILL WAITING ON A REFUND.
There is a such thing as time value of money and it is losing value every day.
This gym is just run by bad people. I suggest you take your business to one of the other ubiquitous gyms in the city. As I work right upstairs in this building I will be sure to continue to notify each and every co-worker, existing and new, to take their business elsewhere. Just look at all the terrible reviews of this place, I unfortunately chose the convenience of location over their unlawful practices.
I have reported this specific location to the Better Business Bureau and will take further action as I see fit. I will terminate my contract the first chance I get and bring my money elsewhere.
TL;DR: NYSC has taken $712 of my money for personal training classes I never took. They have a fraudulent signature under my name and have lied to me about processing my refund on numerous occasions. They sent falsified docs to my bank as "proof" of charge. The Head Trainer has since been fired has he had numerous complaints filed against him. BUT I have yet to receive my money. Will not let this go and will not forget. DO NOT...
Read moreIf I could give this place negative reviews, I'd need to borrow the world's tiniest pen, because their service is beyond minuscule! I froze my membership in 2022, hoping for a frosty break, but come 2023, they thawed out my bank account and started charging me like they were auditioning for a comedy show called "Stealthy Swindlers." So I called them up, ready to cancel this circus act, and they promised they canceled my membership entirely. But here we are on July 1st, and I'm still funding their buffoonery! They don't even have an online cancel button, probably because they're too busy juggling excuses. And just try removing your payment method! They'll cling to it tighter than a squirrel clutching a prized acorn. So I called the establishment and had the pleasure of chatting with Rhki, the world's most confused welcome desk attendant. Despite my efforts to enlighten her about my canceled membership, she insisted on playing a round of "Guess When You Froze Your Membership." She even cranked up the volume to yell at me, as if she were auditioning for a heavy metal band called "Screaming Rhki." Well, I matched her energy, and she responded by dramatically hanging up the phone, leaving me stranded on a laughter-filled cliffhanger. Determined to end this comedy of errors, I called again and again, but it was like they hired Houdini as their receptionist because nobody picked up. So, I took matters into my own hands and strutted into the gym like a stand-up comedian ready to drop the punchline. I requested an investigation into the mysterious charges and begged for an answer to the riddle of the relentless payments. But instead of applause, I got an encore of absurdity. The receptionist, clearly aspiring to be a drama queen, asked me to exit stage left. When I refused, she unleashed her ultimate weapon: the threat of summoning the cops! She painted herself as a victim of my comedic presence, even though there were more cameras in that gym than at a Hollywood premiere. The sirens wailed, and the police arrived, expecting an epic showdown. But to their amusement, they realized it was just a sidesplitting gym membership fiasco. They chuckled, not quite giving me a standing ovation, and proclaimed, "This is not a police matter, folks!" They then imparted their sage wisdom, advising me to seek salvation from the Better Business Bureau, the heroes of canceled memberships. So here I am, still paying for a membership to a gym I can only admire from afar, while preparing my finest comedic routine for the BBB. Note to self: if you want abs of steel, try laughing your way through this gym's absurd membership maze. Just be sure to bring a sense of humor that's stronger than their...
Read moreI would give this place zero stars if i could. Please read this review in regards to their lack of information on what this gym is charging you. The supervisor Nick has been anything but helpful. Not only did I have to come in after calling the club and transferring me to the voicemail of a supervisor several times for the past two days, but none of the staff in the club there have any information about billing because they use a third party company for it. When asking for a refund for strange charges on my card they said only the billing company can do that. When i called their billing company IGNITE ABC BILLING, they said the club is capable of giving a refund. Then after explaining that to Nick, nick then says he does not have the capability to do it. When i asked who does, he says Juan would be however Juan would not be there for a few weeks. When i asked for Juan's contact information, Nick says he does not have it because he is also new to the company.
UPDATE: i asked them to print a copy of my invoices which shows multiple negative balances which shows I am overpaying. When shown to the supervisor Nick, he simply said "we do not look at these" "we dont know what these are" "these numbers don't make sense." Just to put an emphasis on the lack of help I received. When asked what a Draft Payment is, the answer i received was simply "I do not know." When asked the date when Juan would arrive (who i was told by Nick would have more access than me) the answer i was given was "about six weeks." So for six weeks, this gym will have nobody that can help with billing. The fact that the billing company and the gym itself have no communication is a disgusting business practice. You have to find out for yourself the gym's billing policies because the gym itself does seem to even know.
The Bottom Line:
I would never recommend this gym to anyone. The management is absolutely poor. The Gym itself has no idea why people are being charged. There is no transparency with fees being charged to your card. Machines are broken such as some of the elipticals with no signs stopping people from using them. I am now paying over $100 monthly even though i signed up for an $78.36 plan.
Honestly, this gym has less quality than planet fitness so if you want to save money, have more transparency with billing, more helpful staff and better management I would...
