I started going to NYC Laundry bc the other: Super Laundry on Crescent on 162nd had increased incidence "out-of-order" signs on both dryers & washers, when they should have been posted, they weren't. So you might lose you time and $. I was increasingly frustrated the cost of dryers on 162nd increased, but when I returned, my clothes were never dry or dry enough.
Onward to my review of NYC Laundry,: It's a few years old, card-operated, 24-7 operation. They offer drop-off service of which I can't review bc I'm not comfortable with other people doing my laundry. However, from what I understand, if you're particular about soap, you can drop-off your preferred one with your laundry. Washers are digital, energy, and water conservative, meaning you only place all your soap and softeners at the beginning -- set it -- forget it for 20 or 40 minutes (depending o your load and cycle selection). Washer rotation alternates throughout the wash. Dryers, new for now, are $0.30 for 8 minutes. So long as you don't overcrowd it, and variable material, there's no need for 30 or 40 minutes. I've found 24 minutes is sufficient. *Alert notice: The 4 dryers in the back (top/bottom), on the far right, are $0.30 for 5 minutes for some reason. I don't know if that's a mistake, for staff only, or a bait and switch. If you're conscious of how your $ is spent and your time, like me, I'd avoid those unless your drying delicates I guess.
The atmosphere varies on the hour of the day, is generally clean, waste baskets and recycle are available. You can drop-off clothing in the donation bin. Attendants and staff are helpful. If you like watching television while doing laundry, there is both English and Spanish TV. Asian television would be interesting bc this neighborhood does have a small multi-cultural Asian community, then you could compare the elements of drama TV. I'm...
Read moreNeeded to buy some detergent clearly labeled in the window $2.29. I went to buy it with the attendant who then told me as I was going to pay it was $2.49 (as I was paying in quarters), then kept the penny. Detergent was also in Chinese as opposed English or Spanish and there’s no attempt at translating.
The cost of doing laundry at this particular place is about 2-3x more than other places I’m already familiar with. In short this place seems more interested in squeezing pennies out of customers than serving the community. Couldn’t...
