One Bryant Park, officially known as the Bank of America Tower, is one of the world’s most advanced skyscrapers in sustainable design. But beyond its fame, there are lesser-known and fascinating facts about it:

This tower was the first commercial skyscraper in the U.S. to earn LEED Platinum certification. Even more interesting is that 70% of its power is generated by an on-site cogeneration plant. This plant uses natural gas to produce both electricity and heat, reducing the building’s dependence on the city’s power grid.

The building’s façade is made of high-performance double-glazed glass that lets in ample natural light while preventing energy loss. Additionally, it uses rainwater and graywater recycling systems to minimize city water usage.

At the ground level, a Winter Garden with operable glass panels was designed to open on mild or warm days, allowing fresh air to circulate indoors. Open to the public, this garden features lush plants, abundant natural light, and seating areas, bringing calm and balance to the busy heart of Manhattan.

Interestingly, the garden uses intelligent lighting and ventilation systems that automatically adjust to environmental conditions. It’s not just a place to relax and read — it often hosts public events, art exhibitions, and even live music performances.

The presence of this space at the base of the Bank of America Tower reflects the developers’ human-centered and cultural vision: it’s not just a workplace, but a vibrant part of city life that blends sustainability, nature, and architecture. (Source picture ,...
