Energetic performance ruined by me-centric, drunken people and inutile house manager. Iâve never seen a show on Broadway before, so had high expectations of the venue, performances and production quality based on my West End experiences. I didnât however anticipate the moronic, infantile and arrogant behaviour of 10 locals clearly drunk and thinking everyone around them would be appreciative of their constant talking, exhibitionist antics and disrespectful conduct. Complaints were made to the ushers and at the interval the group were âaskedâ to consider audience members around them. This was such a pathetic attempt it was incredulous, no surprises that the group were incredibly rude post interval despite other audience members repeatedly asking them to be more considerate. Broadway isnât a cheap night out and genuine, considerate theatre goers should be allowed to enjoy an immersive and fun show. Unacceptable and loutish conduct should not be tolerated, but the languid ineffectual response by theatre staff, even when faced with multiple complaints, contributed to the problem. There was no theatre etiquette by some patrons and no tenacity shown by staff. The situation could have been easily resolved in the interval but indifference and a lack of fortitude was evident. Speaking to the usher and house manager was a waste of time, their lack of ownership and capacity to effectively resolve issues was astounding. Such a shame that the puerile antics of inconsiderate self-absorbed drunks ruined what Iâm sure is a...
   Read moreAbsolutely awful!
It was a very creative idea to have Ann Hathaway (Shakespeare's wife) playfully re-write the ending of Romeo & Juliet to have Juliet choose to not kill herself after she wakes from the sleeping potion and finds Romeo dead. The intertwining of modern pop music to help tell the story was also fun. But the positive aspects of the show end there.
The problem with this play is the pervasive over-sexualization. Not only is the plot saturated with innuendo, but the audience is exposed to the spontaneous sexual exploits of a supporting character, followed by the expected homosexual romance of a second supporting character, including kissing, hugging and celebratory singing and dancing. And this is all in the first act of the play.
I can't tell you what happens in the remainder of the play as I needed to extricate my wife and teenage daughters from the depraved indoctrination of the morally-bankrupt.
Despite the intentional omission of any mention of these issues in any published synopsis, it is not surprising that our request for a refund was summarily rejected with the ever-ready declaration of, "No refunds!"
I'm disappointed by the play. I'm disappointed by the theater management. Save your money and...
Read moreWow "&Juliet" was such a fun show to watch! I haven't watched a musical since before covid and I was reminded of how much I had enjoyed them! I got my ticket during a sale so it was a great price.
I loved how all the pop songs were incorporated into the plot so seamlessly. I heard a lot of songs from my younger days and it almost felt like a nostalgic visit to the past. Maya Boyd absolutely killed it as Juliet, during her first solo song, I literally had tears in my eyes by the time she finished singing it. She did all the songs so much justice as she always sang with such clarity and power depending on the scene. The surprise appearance by De Bois band was one of my favorite parts of the show as their performance had everyone waving their hands like it was an impromptu concert.
I was seated in orchestra on the left side row N closer to the center and honestly it was a great view. Each row was one step lower than the one in front so unless someone has a super tall torso, the stage wasn't blocked at all.
The restrooms were on the lounge level so it gets quite crowded during intermission and after the show. Best to go right before the...
