Perry Tailoring — Local services in New York

My decision to try out this tailor was based on glowing reviews, but my actual experience was a letdown from start to finish. To begin with, black threads were used on white fabric, which was a major oversight.

But what truly soured the experience was the lack of professionalism and downright rudeness. When I called to discuss an issue with one of the items still being too large, the response was a curt instruction to come in person. Upon arriving, I was met with dismissiveness and told that no revisions would be made, despite the clear discrepancy. It was frustrating to have paid upfront and receive such poor service in return.

In the end, I left feeling disheartened and stuck with an item that was essentially untouched and three sizes too large. The lack of care and respect shown by the tailor was disappointing, to say the least. Save yourself the trouble and steer clear of this place. I came in to tailor a bridesmaid dress and initially requested a simple strap shortening, just to adjust the fit without changing the length of the dress. I specifically did not want the dress hemmed. However, Perry encouraged me to also shorten the dress. I was hesitant and even suggested we start with the straps first, then decide on hemming later if needed. He insisted that he might not have availability later to do the hem, which pressured me into agreeing.

Before moving forward, I clearly stated that I still wanted the dress to touch the floor and not end up too short.

Unfortunately, when I tried on the dress, it was far too short. So in the end, I paid extra for an alteration I didn't originally want, based on his recommendation, and it made the dress worse.

Not only that but when I picked it up, Perry mentioned he hadn't realized the dress had three layers and tried to charge me an extra $20- which I didn't pay.

I would never come...

This man is an absolute miracle worker. I had a bridesmaid dress that was too tight in my rib cage area and I was worried I wouldn't be able to be in the wedding since there wasn't enough time to order a new one. He somehow added extra width to it and hemmed the dress beautifully. I will be taking all of my alterations to Perry Tailoring for as long as I live downtown. Would give 10 stars if that...
