Pretty Lady African Hair Braiding — Local services in New York

0/10 I DO NOT RECOMMEND AND IM REALLY DISAPPOINTED AT THE WAY THEY CONDUCT BUSINESS!! $140 down the drain.

If I can give this place 0 stars I would. The lady braided my cornrows SOOOO TIGHT, she literally braided my tiniest baby hairs and thoughts 🙄 even after I told her to loosen them time and time again while she was braiding. My hair follicles were so swollen and I started developing little bumps around my hairline. I literally couldn’t sleep for 2 days. I took extra strength Tylenol and that didn’t even help. I did everything in my power to loosen them up, I used leave-in conditioner and ran them under warm water. After 2 days, I couldn’t bear the pain any longer so I took them out. I lost my edges, and a lot of hair. She also ripped some of my hair strands (pictured below). As she was cutting along the braid, I told her that she may cut my hair because it’s long and she was going way too high on the braid. She assured me that she wouldn’t…. But she did!!! I have had my hair braided many times and this is hands down the WORST BRAIDING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!!! My scalp was tender for a week even after removing the braids. It was pure torture.

When I called them to do something about it they told me that the owner was not working and they couldn’t do anything for me until she gave them the OK. I called the owner multiple times but she ignored me all day. The next day, she was back in the salon and I was able to speak to her but she said she couldn’t do anything for me and shes sorry “if I feel that way” she refused to give me a refund (not even partially) and said next time I come in she will give me a PARTIAL discount. UPDATE - 8/27 Changing to 4 stars and here is why. The ladies at the shop are always so kind and are quick. I've gotten my hair braided here about 4 times and always get the exact same thing. My most recent visit once my braider finished, they asked if I knew the price and I said yes (since I always get the same thing). The owner came by giving me a different price (30 dollars more) and claimed it has always been the price. What I didn't like nor respect is that she got loud with me. I then proceeded to show her past receipts/transfer of me sending her a different price. She gaslit me, lol. I showed her pictures of what I got in the past - dated pictures - it was the exact same thing. She still gaslit me saying they never charged the lesser amount. Eventually she said, "fine you can pay that price." I told her, no, I can pay the new price, that's not the point.

If the price went up - JUST SAY THAT. But don't sit there and lie in my face and get loud with me esp after showing receipts. I understand that inflation is real, honey.

OLD REVIEW: I brought my own braiding hair and arrived at around 8:45 AM on a Friday morning, was sat by 9:15 AM. My braider was so sweet and adorable, she didn't speak much English. She took a break to eat after about an hour in but I walked out the salon happy with my hair by around 3 PM. I would come here again - I would recommend coming...

this shop seems like a hit or miss. My first time going for knotless boho braids. I brought my own human hair. However only one braider was able to braid with this. I showed her exactly what I wanted my hair to look like, more fullness almost like a sew in or tree braids - but I def did not get that, despite bringing 4 bundles of hair (which was overkill enough for the look I asked for) Hair is very much more braids than hair out. I’m also finding a lot of braids that weren’t sealed all the way so when I brushed the hair some of the boho curls came out already. I just got my hair done not even 6 hours ago.

Lss - if you want the modern sew in style like knotless braids - this isn’t your spot nor if you are looking to utilize human hair. They seem to be on a time frame to get everyone in and out as fast as possible so if it’s something basic they can do, but anything out of the ordinary - go to someone some where else. Prices are better here than other spots but you def get what you pay for. Would only go here if you want the Facebook synthetic braid BRAIDS knotless braids. 2 stars because they were nice and quick. & the other styles I saw while they’re done were neat and look good.
