Unfortunately had a terrible experience at this store. The sales rep was either incompetent or straight up lied to me :/ TLDR: go to the store in Manhattan.
Red Wing employees are on commission which I normally don't mind. Capitalism at work usually works... in this case it didn't. I guess it did in a way, I went to another store and purchased them there.
I asked the salesperson if they had three different varieties of Blacksmith boots. He said they had two (of the three possible). At this point I was admittedly somewhat annoyed (not his fault) as the reason I went to a store was to see the actual shoes in person.
But I continued to press on. Maybe I'd fall in love with one of the two varieties he had. Unfortunately this is where things turned for the worse. He stated that copper color they had in stock was better for me than the briar color they didn't as he felt it was more versatile. This directly contradicted what I've read online and my own experience with colors of shoes. At this point I started to get the feeling he was only interested in closing the sale (not in me getting the perfect pair of boots).
I then asked if another store in New York had the briar style so I could see the leather in person. He said none of the New York stores did, but there was one in New Jersey. Either he is incompetent or he lied about this. I went outside and called the manhattan store and they had them in stock. I would expect a sales rep to be able to accurately gauge stock at other stores or at a minimum know their stock keeping isn't well done and say that you need to call to get...
Read moreThey would get a 10 if I could make it a -10 (negative ten), meaning they are the best at being the worst. Forget the lack of staff, the quality of the staff is horrible; they are rude pompous morons that select who they want to help. First come first served and the customer is always right are not their policies. If you want to be treated like a dollar sign and spend more time in there then you have them by all means knock yourself out and go there. I took a pair of work boots to be cleaned (did not need new laces nor did I ask for them) all they did was take 2days to replace the laces which had me bending down to tie my shoe every 20 minutes. The boots came back the same. They over charge for insoles and make you step on some foot measuring apparatus to trick you into buy $60+ dollar insoles. Complete rip off and terrible customer service. I’m surprised their still I business. However if you want quality service and don’t want to get roped off visit the store in sunny side queens, on the no. 7 train it’s the 46 st - bliss stop. I took my boots to get cleaned there (with 2 workers in the store and a few customers) y boots were cleaned and came back sparkling in 10 mins. Meanwhile it took the other dirtbags 2days to replace laces. Trust me take a chance and...
Read moreI am extremely dissatisfied with the service I received at this location. The location’s manager was obstinate, unhelpful, and lacked empathy. I brought in a pair of classic 9030’s that I have owned for 8 years for resoling and reheeling service. They are in beautiful shape. The manager insisted that Red Wing would only replace the wooden heel with a contemporary rubber heel — something that would indelibly alter my boots. I told the manager repeatedly that I have been able to work with independent cobblers who have not caused any fuss about the fundamental structure of my boots when it comes to reheeling service. Moreover, I emphasized that my boots are a lifetime investment -- something that I care about deeply. He simply responded that “times changed”. I will be going to an independent cobbler instead. I suggest that everyone else do the same. The manager of this location does not share the zeal and passion for Red Wing's products that many customers do, which is immensely...
