**Updating just to reply to the salons response below - most salons are able to color your roots, they donāt need to pull the bleach through the rest of your hair thatās already been colored, so their response has no relevance. In fact Iāve had my roots colored three times since I got my hair colored back in New York in June, and, unsurprisingly, it hasnāt broken off or fallen out! I guess if a salon worker is going to say he thinks your hair is too damaged to color, perhaps he should not have disastrous hair himself (Ie far more damaged than mine has ever been or presumably ever will be). Those interested can see my hair on our hobby IG at @hautevoyages (with which we collaborate with luxury hotels such as the Mandarin Oriental, four seasons, hence why it is so important for my hair to be colored properly), to judge for yourselves. ** Came here to get a partial foil, highlights and low lights as I always do, Iāve been to good and bad salons all over the world (most recently went to two different salons in Cape Town as we spend a couple months there per year to avoid New York and London winters, as we primarily live in London now but used to be full-time West Village and are very in and out still).
I know that this used to be lotus and I never went there when it was lotus - for the first time ever, a salon refused to do my hair. He was too concerned about its condition - bear in mind that in the past Iāve often even colored it myself by directions given from my prior NYC hair colorist who would come to my apartment for years and years, so I know what it can or cannot take.
He suggested things like using a lot of dry shampoo to let the roots grow out even more as there are definitely damaged pieces but nothing of concern or out of the usual for the past decade plus - my issue with the last two salons I had been to in Cape Town was that they didnāt actually color it so I still had very dark roots in the back. Iām fine to color it myself if itās in the front but I cannot see the back to color it myself (I am a former attorney by trade, not hair colorist).
He also suggested buying a wig but considering my blonde hair is almost down to my butt, that wouldnāt really make any sense either. I ended up going same day straight from here to a more expensive salon also in the neighborhood, who - surprise surprise -gave me highlights and low lights successfully, as everyone else (for the most part) has done.
It was quite frustrating as we were leaving town in just a couple days, so I was relying on getting my hair colored when back in NYC for quite some time, as we travel to every continent but Antarctica before April and May every year now, so weāre always quite on the go these days, and I refuse to get it colored in London after having a scary experience a decade ago when I had extensions (but even going to the Aveda training institute for so long when I was in law school in NYC, Iāve never had issues in NYC!).
To be fair he had very black roots and very peroxide bleached hair himself, so it seems a bit strange that he would be scared to go near mine considering I donāt have that extremely black roots and I donāt have peroxide bleached hair either - regardless, Iām obviously greatly appreciative that another salon was able to color my hair as everyone else always has, whether itās a great end result or not, itās never falling out, so this made things extremely difficult, as I had plans with friends later that I had to cancel on and had not seen in several years, since we are so rarely in town anymore for long periods.
Compared to other salons in the neighborhood (Iāve been to all sorts including Whittemore House over the last decade plus), it wasnāt...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAs a small business owner there is always something that needs my attention. Sitting at the salon and writing reviews are two things I would rather skip. Iām taking the time to write this review for Brigid who has been keeping me happy with my hair since around 2015 AND Eufora because they keep Brigid happy by supporting her creativity and professional growth.
Brigid is an incredible artist who stays on top of the industry without simply copying the latest trend. She is always excited to collaborate on a new do. She has chopped my hair off when Iām ready for a change and helped me grow it back out without ugly in between stages. Good hair canāt fix problems but it can boost your mood while youāre solving them.
Lastly, I love their products AND they are...
