The Corner Bookstore — Local services in New York

So saddened and disappointed by the staff here. I went out of my way (with a toddler!) to buy a book from a local bookstore to support business. I can easily buy a book online, where it is also much cheaper. I wasn’t even greeted with a hello. One of the two men finally asked if he could help me with anything. I told him I was looking for something new to read, and that was that. Not a “can I help or recommend something”. It didn’t get any better from there unfortunately. I am French and during my week spent in NY, I wanted to discover American authors who described the atmosphere of this city. I only knew the classics "Manhattan Transfer" by John dos Passos or "The Great Gatsby" by Fitzgerald, which I had read in French translation. I had the good idea to enter this bookshop and the bookseller advised me very well by making me discover James Baldwin, Colson Whitehead and Jay Mc Inerney. To be honest I had been going to the Barnes and Nobles on 86th for years. They closed during the pandemic which was upsetting, however it gave me a chance to find this gem. I had no idea they were here or had been here for so long. They have a great selection and the staff was very helpful. They ordered an older book that I was looking for and it came in quickly. This is gonna be my book stop from now on. Stop giving your money to big corporations who are closing anyway, and support great locals shops like...
