I visited the museum recently with my grandmother, as well as my sister and her boyfriend who were visiting the city. The Ben Shahn exhibit, though wonderful, was disappointingly the only one open. While I was standing in the gallery and viewing the art in silence, a shorter, bearded security guard came up to me, uncomfortably close, and asked me where I was from. I told him I’m a New Yorker but clearly that wasn’t the answer he wanted, and he asked again, now obviously asking about my ethnicity. I was of course extremely uncomfortable and taken aback but did not want to make a scene. After telling him enough of what he wanted to hear—as well as that I’m Jewish—he told me I looked German (why would that matter?). Trying to make this unwelcome interaction less of an interrogation I asked him where he was from. He wouldn’t tell me, but he smiled and asked me to guess. By this point I no longer felt like playing his bizarre, wildly unprofessional game. I demurred, and he thankfully left me alone soon after, but the transgression made it impossible for me to just focus on and enjoy the rest of the exhibition. This sort of behavior is completely unacceptable. Never have I encountered anything like this at a museum or gallery because these are things professionally trained guards simply do not do. I sincerely hope no other patrons have been violated in this way, though I sadly would not be surprised if this were the case. I have no plans to return to the Jewish Museum. Jews and New Yorkers deserve better than this from their cultural institutions. I encourage others to spend their time elsewhere. Racial profiling is...

The Jewish Museum is a museum in Manhattan, on the "museum mile" devoted to Jewish Culture . As it describes itself on its website it is a "museum at the intersection of art and Jewish culture for people of all backgrounds".

The building where the museum is located was a mansion owned by Mr. Warburg, a Jewish philanthropist in the early 1900's. It worth visiting the museum just to see the building.

The artistic works in the museum have in the view of the museum docents a connection to Jewish Culture in the sense that either the artist is Jewish and/or the work has a Jewish theme. The connection to Judaism of some of the work is tenuous in my opinion .

The other part of the museum is devoted to Jewish ceremonial objects dating back in many cases hundreds of years. This includes things like Shofars, Torah Covers and many other items. Personally I enjoyed this part more.

Besides the exhibits, the museum have various programs and lectures - I recently attended a lecture at the museum by 2 Jewish writers talking about their books. Whether or not you are Jewish, and however much you know about Judaism the museum is worth a trip.

There is a kosher restaurant in the basement of the museum called Russ and Daughters. It serves various diary dishes and is supposed to be very good (I haven't eaten there myself). It is on the expensive side, however, even by...

I was a Visitor Experience Assistant for a year and a half there. I started in the middle of January 2022 and left in the middle of May this year. I loved the exhibitions. They were great. And I loved working there. Now although everyone that I worked with was nice and kind, it turned stressful for me and things went downhill from there. I was treated poorly by three former colleagues by the names of Ava Dennis, Kenta Bloom, (Ava and Kenta who are Visitor Experience Assistants) and Toni Skiba (Toni who works in Human Resources in the staff offices) when things took a drastic turn. Kenta, Ava, and Toni were all nice when I met them. They use to be nice. But now l don’t know what happened. They changed and became three totally different people. My two managers and other colleagues were very nice. I am sad that I left and I did love what l did there. I really loved working at the museum. I do NOT recommend this museum anymore. Do NOT visit there. I will never go back there ever again. NOT even as a visitor I will NOT go back there again. I wish them and everyone else that works there still right now and that I use to work with there nothing...
