United Hardware — Local services in New York

Perfect local hardware store. Having visited my fair share of NYC hardware stores, of all shapes and sizes, this one is by and far my favorite. It's clean, organized, well stocked of the essentials. Employees were super helpful and accommodating. It's not large (if you're looking for a big box hardware store, you're in the wrong city) but it sure does have a lot for it's size. Other stores feel cramped, claustrophobic, disorganized, and one wrong move you will knock over a display. Being in this store was physically soothing as well as just having exactly what I needed (and the stuff they didn't have, they helped me with a work around). The perfect neighborhood hardware store for anyone who's ever thought, "how hard can this be?" Whether you want to rewire a lamp, redo the bathroom, need some gadgets for the kitchen or want a spare spare set of keys, you can rely on these guys. If they don't have it, usually they can order it for you. For seven years, it's been my favorite place in the neighborhood with great service, super friendly staff, good prices, and wide selection of all the stuff a hardware store should have. I only gave them one star because I had to. I have been going to this place for 9 years. Not anymore. I went in to have a key set made. I handed them the key and 2 cards to make a new key. I told them I didn't know which card it was and to please help me figure it out. They made the wrong key. And then lied about the fact that I had asked them to help me figure out which key I needed. And on top of it, they held my other keys hostage while they wrung up the key they made a mistake on. Instead of being courteous to a long time customer, they lost...
