I have been to Row House on 4 other occasions. Today was my first time being there for dinner service. Today was my last time being there for dinner service. My experience was a complete and other disaster. I went with a friend and we were casually dressed. Maybe a little too casual because we were sat so far in the back by the bathroom that I asked if we could sit elsewhere. I was told that we could not because all of the other seats were reserved. Ironically some of the reserved seats were empty when I left having never been occupied during my time there. I guess the hostess did not think we were dressed for public viewing. my female friend was wearing a head wrap and mentioned that perhaps the head wrap made her look too casual. Ironically, the party later seated at the table adjacent to us -- also had a woman wearing a head wrap. That confirmed it for me that the hostess preferred the longer haired patrons. It took over 20 minutes for someone to come and take our order. it took another 40 minutes for the food to arrive. The orders arrived incorrect and undercooked. I spoke to the waitress, Belle, who was a great server. she explained that they were backed up in the kitchen because of a shift change and because it was busy. I looked around the restaurant and counted at least 8 vacant tables. I mentioned to her the inaccuracies in the order and showed her the undercooked salmon that I ordered. She made all of the appropriate apologies and subtracted one of the entrees from the check. However, I do not think I will be back. I sum it up simply as too much time wasted; too much money spent and not enough food eaten or enjoyed. My brunch experiences have been amazing but I think the extremely poor dinner service has kind of ruined it for...
Read moreAtmosphere...super fun...deejays...so dope...perfect blend of hip hop and r&b real turntable mixing...with serious music affectionados . I had a great time hanging in a party of 14 of my Sorority sisters.
As for the food...meh. really meh. In other words it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't anything at all to write home about. I asked others about their dishes and I took a good look at their dishes. Their comments: The fried chicken...over cooked, the Shrimp and grits underwhelming (please remove the tail shell when serving with grits) the burger was okay...the wings looked dry, but had good flavor...the sangria was a hit.
I ordered 2 dishes...the Kale and Quinoa salad and the Crab Cakes Benedict which I did not know came with potatoes (a disappointment) and a small spinach salad, lightly dressed.
Dish 1. Kale and Quinoa...best dish. It was light yet filling. I would have liked larger beets, but overall the flavor profile was really a nice balance of acid and sweet with a nice crunch. read the menu
Dish 2. The Crab Cakes Benedict. The poached egg was perfectly cooked. The Crab cake was a miss for me. I tasted mostly filling...not much Crab at all. The missing mesculin greens from that dish removed the expected brightness from eating a rich yolkey dish. The English muffin did not play a strong support role at all.
Would I go back? Absolutely! Did I mention the deejays are fire? I just think when it's busy (and it really was). There just has to be greater care given to the preparation for every dish served. HARLEM is...
Read moreI should've known the outcome of my experience when I looked in the window and was faced with none other than a B sanitation rating. We gave them the benefit of the doubt. We were okay with waiting 15 minutes for a table because we had no reservation. The atmosphere was nice, there was live entertainment, and at that point I was feeling generous. Fifteen minutes later, we were seated at the closet table to the door which had been open since the minute we walked into the establishment. It was a cold December Sunday. The table was situated behind a large pillar that separated us from the rest of the restaurant and the atmosphere, which was the only redeeming quality. We were cold and we didn't have a waiter. We asked a manager if there was another table open. He told us there wasn't. After hearing of our disdain, the manager offered us hot chocolate, which was NOT even on the menu! You would think that he at least would be aware of what they did and did not serve. We ordered tea. When my chamomile tea arrived, the whole bag WITH THE STRING was submerged in the boiling water. The string? That's a health hazard. The waiter's germs were brewing in my tea! I guess we know why they got a B. Still in our coats due to the breeze, my friends and I gave our order to a passing waiter (since none of the dining staff acknowledged our patronage) and moved ourselves to a new table that opened up. The food arrived and it was a 6/10 at best. We...
