I have been a long time client of Urban Tanz. Unfortunately I have a pre-existing condition that I am being discriminated against by this salon. I paid for a full package of tans that this salon said I now cannot use because they expired over COVID-19. I requested to use the tans THAT I ALREADY PAID FOR IN FULL after I receive my second COVID vaccine shot on April 6th and they denied my request. Just because I have to obey an extremely cautious protocol at this risky time does not mean that i should loose the service that i already paid for. The salon Manager was unprofessional and rude, and she literally hung up on me for pointing out that her business’s decision was discriminatory. She literally said “that’s not our problem”. Honestly what are they actually loosing by denying to hold up their end of the transaction after they already took my money for the service. Not only did they loose a long-time client today, they revealed their unethical business practices. This discrimination for someone with a pre-existing condition should not be respected OR tolerated from clients. THEN i received an even more unprofessional and rude reply to this post calling me a liar! their offer is not sufficient or satisfactory, their customer service is not sufficient (using 7 tans in one month) and their policies are not ethical. What Urban Tanz should offer is to extend the time to use the tans by the full time that i was unable to use the tans - considering that because i am immune compromised i will not be coming in until i am fully vaccinated on 4/6. What should be offered is for me to use what I ALREADY PAID FOR in FULL the six months of package time that i signed up for. They keep telling me they have been open since the CDC allowed but the CDC also recommended that people with compromised immune systems NOT spend unnecessary time indoors in public. Urban Tanz needs to wise up and not discriminate against this population of people who were not recommended to take part in their service. Why is this even a big ask, what exactly is the difference for them? Give me what I paid for, on the terms agreed, taking into consideration this super messed up COVID situation that unfortunately puts people like me at greater risk! their response is again, unprofessional, it reflects terrible customer service, and it perpetuates exactly the wrong response to a discrimination call out. I will not be revisiting this business and I do not recommend it with this type of management in place. and AGAIN with their recent response - in case you missed the point, I am immune repressed and did not have 9 months to use me plan! anyone who is immune repressed was advised to not take part in recreational indoor activities until they are vaccinated. Your knee jerk response to gaslight me...
Read moreVery disappointed. I had engagement photos on Saturday and needed a spray tan. I usually always go to sugar and bronze because they have good spray tans and even better customer service.
You aren’t going to get that here. I got my spray tan and it was half the session time as sugar and bronze. I had to ask the lady to actually go down to my calves because i was getting half sprays from her just standing and misting my legs. The biggest thing about spray tans is my face spray going away. I asked the technician In the beginning, If my spray tan comes off on my face, can i come back just for a quick spray that next evening. She said i would need to come before 745 on Friday (they close at 8) but it would be best to come back sat morning. I got off work early on Friday so I called. The owner said they had a microblading Session going on tonight and all day until 3 pm sat (although the lady working there originally told me they are setting up for the microblading apt for the next day, so sounds like there wasn’t any current sessions happening, they just didn’t want to have to re-set up).
First off, who wants to get their eyebrows microbladed in an area where spray tans are conducted? That is asking for an infection. And second, have a little more customer service if you can’t accommodate. Sugar and bronzed would have never told me it was ok to come in And then tell me otherwise. Sugar and bronzed also doesn’t do a tattoo on the face in the same room as spray tans…. This isn’t any other Friday night spray tan, these are my engagement photos so I’m very disappointed and do not recommend this place.
Next time I’ll be going back to sugar and bronzed. Lesson learned.
Response to owner:
Ma’am, I was more than pleasant during my appointment. You’re upset about my review. I am upset about your technician that said I could come back for a face tan. And I did call ahead of time, but I was not notified i needed to book a face Spray ahead of time, otherwise I would have. I asked two technicians if I could come in the next day or day after for my face, and both said yes without saying I needed to book an an appointment.
Your response to me just verifies my original review.
Yes, you’re very right about one thing: I should have never gone to a new salon for something...
Read moreI was a member (tanning package buyer) of this salon since 2014 and remained so even when I moved further South in Brooklyn, but chose not to go back after very poor customer service.
I traveled from Crown Heights, arrived at 4:40p on a Sunday, but they were already closed, even though they close at 5pm that day--it was locked, with nobody in there. I emailed them, explaining that I paid $20 in taxi fare and was very disappointed--I suggested a free tan or two to cover my inconvenience and cab fare (I provided a receipt)--explaining that I have been going there for 2+ years, but they didn't care.
Someone replied to my email, claiming that customers were still there at 5pm (there were not), they were sorry, and wished me the 'best of luck' finding a new place!
This is shocking to me--I have owned several small business in my life and would go to the end-of-the-earth to retain a paying customer. Apparently this is not important to them considering the 'SoHo-ification' of Williamsburg.
I wish them the best of luck when the L train shuts down. Do not go to this place--they don't care about you or your...
