The Commodore is one of my all time favorite places to get brunch in Brooklyn. We’ve been many times and have had several things on the menu. It’s a bit of a no-frills kind of place where the bartender lovingly ignores you, and there is no wait staff. You order at the bar and take a number to your table for the food to be delivered. Despite the divey-atmosphere, their food is unexpectedly good. Their Chicken Biscuit has a honey glaze that’s a perfect complement to the crispy fried chicken. I haven’t had a chicken biscuit that compares, and I now live in Charleston, SC. We’ve also had their nachos, and their kale salad which were really great. I also love their emphasis on frozen beach drinks. I end up drinking at least one Piña Colada every time I visit. Overall, The Commodore is a great place to meet with friends and have a few drinks and some good food. Nice relaxed atmosphere (no brunch lines), killer food, great drinks — You really can’t ask for more in Brooklyn.

Late night find on a Sunday that was amazing. Birthday day night out, and food was the last thing on our minds, but I am so happy that this was the spot. Nice crowd, ambiance, and the staff was amazing and accommodating. From the bouncer , bartender, food runner, and compliments to the chef. I love fried chicken, and that's what got me to the establishment. The reviews don't lie. Healthy serving, crispy moist, and biscuits with honey butter. Finger licking good. My daughter, with her high standards on burgers, went for the bacon cheeseburger, and it was a hit. The chicken club ordered by my mom, who is definitely the picky eater, was a 2 thumbs up. Let me not forget that the drinks were really good as well. Frozen mojitos, Pina coladas, and the Rum Punch hit the spot on all fronts. If you're in the area, this is a definite must try spot. Now, on my list of faves to hit when in the area. Thanks for helping my birthday be tasty!!!

Came here in the afternoon just as the kitchen was closing. Debated for a bit and ultimately decided to stay because I’ll not be denied of my chicken sandwich lol. Started off with the Orange Julio, as if it’s the grownup Orange Julius. Two sips in and immediate brain freeze. The vibe is a bit chaotic but the bartenders did a great job making sure everyone is well-hydrated with drinks. Shortly before 5pm, my bartender gave me the food menu as if she could read my mind. I got the mild breast sandwich and a small side of fries. The sandwich came out piping hot and prolly the juiciest chicken breast I’ve ever eaten. Could it be a wet brine process..? However, the chicken was a tad too salty for my taste. Still, I inhaled the sandwich. The fries were okay..? Nothing special but an adequate companion to my sandwich. All in all, I was a very happy camper. I love the Commodore and I’ll be back for sure!

This has been the single worst dining experience that I've ever had in my life. My wife was verbally abused and berated to the point of running out of the restaurant crying by a short, slightly chunky woman with heavy mascara and brown hair whow was delivering did from the kitchen. She refused to get the manager saying she was the manager here and had been working there for 3-4 years. Turns out, that this place isn't a restaurant at all. It's a bar. Either way, we went in and since seating was almost impossible to find, my wife scouted out the seating while i waited at the bar to order the food. Yes, there's no waitresses taking orders or a line/window for food. You must order food from a crowd at the busy bar waiting for drinks. After finally waiting only 15 minutes, and you'll see why I say only 15 minutes in a moment, to just order the food, I placed the order. Unfortunately, I forgot to order drinks. That was a huge mistake.

I went back to the bar and waited to order a seltzer water. 10 minutes went by. Then 20 minutes. The crowd of people waiting to order wasn't moving at all. The people around me started complaining about the wait. The two bartenders must've been new or something, because in the 45 minutes it took me to get to the front of the line, I watched them spend more time fumbling around with people's open bar tabs. It looked like they had misplaced credit cards or something. They only produced about 3 drinks in that 45 minute time frame. It was the slowest bar service that I had ever seen. By this time, the crowd had built up around me to at least 20 people waiting to get drinks. Eventually I got the seltzer. I walk out to find my wife sitting down with the food that we had ordered. She had waited for me to start eating and the food was now cold. I went back in and flagged down a woman who was the food runner. She didn't take orders but just dropped off the food. I asked her if she could warm up the food or flash fry the chicken quickly again. She took away the plates and then we waited another 20 minutes for the food again. By this point we had been there well over an hour and had not eaten yet. I explained to the woman what was going on at the bar and how they weren't serving customers at a reasonable pace. She immediately started blaming us and saying that she had dropped the food off at the table and passed by numerous times and noticed that my wife wasnt eating and that it looked like something was wrong. But why didn't she stop by and ask her what was going on? She told us that we should've approached her and ordered the drinks from her, but when we walked in, we were directed to order all did and drinks at the bar and that there was no table service or order taking at the table. Although I mentioned it was not her fault at all several times, she continued to blame us for creating this experience.

Then she finally brought the food. She had to say something again She said something to the effect of its our fault and that next time my wife shouldn't gotten up and grabbed her. Then my wife opened her mouth to this woman for the first and last time. She simply said that there probably won't be a next time. Then the woman walked away.

We proceeded to start to eat and i don't even know if we got our first bite in before this woman came storming back to our table, crouched down and looked my wife in the eye and told her that she didn't appreciate the tone of voice that she has used with her and how she went above and beyond to serve us and personally cater to all of our demands. I immediately stopped her and told her not to talk to my wife like that and to talk to me if she had a problem. Up until those point my wife never uttered a word to her other than there not being a next time.

She went on and on causing a huge scene in the restaurant saying how my wife had "iced" her, whatever that means. Maybe it means a dirty look as far as I can guess. I don't know.

At that point my wife had tears pouring down her face and was so humiliated and ran out of...

With a heavy heart and after hundreds of review, for the first time giving a place a 1 star review. Terrible service provided when my friend and I went for a quick bite last night. Looking at the reviews, I am not surprised that others have had a the same experience, and treated in the same way by the same woman - as described "slightly chunky woman with heavy mascara and brown/blonde hair". So 10pm ish we get to commodore – super excited to try their fried chicken+burger. The lady tells us to take the free table. We ask for the menu - she brings it - then - we dont see her for some time - and after getting her - we tell her we want to order. She mentions to go to the bar to order – we do so. We had to negotiate with people ordering drinks - to get through to bar tender to order food. We made the HUGE mistake or not asking for water then - and had to go back to the bar. After about 20 minutes, not sure if food would come to our table or the bar – we ask about it, and she says “relax, you will get your food” – which sounded very rude since it was a relatively simple question. At the 20 minute point (we were quite relaxed) - our fries come– upon which we ask the logical question – when we would get our food. This hit a nerve .. and she says “do you need exact time in minutes… you know this is not a fast food joint …”…. This did piss me off – and I asked her why she was being unnecessarily rude … she goes “I’ve already wasted a lot of time explaining how this place works” …. I told her “hmmm you work here – so that’s your job” – which seems to have offended her even more and clarifies she is a foodrunnner not a waiter. After being aggravated - she has the audacity to tell a paying customer “you know I can kick you out of the restaurant”…. Not trying to lose my cool and quite perplexed at the interaction, I stay at my table for couple more minutes. It was quite surreal - and we werent sure how to react... At the 30 minute mark our burger and fried chicken were here - which were literally "thrown / slided" to us......but our appetite was gone. Feeling insulted, embarrassed and confused at this interaction - I went back to the bar – gave the food back and told the bar tender that the waiter was extremely rude, and preferred that I leave – so I will do so without eating (that too after waiting for almost 40 minutes). The bartender was apologetic saying that he will waive the bill or give me a free drink… but I wanted to pay (and so I did) and didn’t want any freebee, since I wanted to leave the impression that we were not even). I write this review being more sad than angry - such a popular establishment being run by untrained and unprofessional staff and sad that a place like this is in Brooklyn. I am not sad however to have not tried their fried chicken - since I can assure you that’s its not worth the terrible...

I’ll be honest—this isn’t the typical place I’d frequent, but it was the only late night spot open that was still serving food. To begin with, upon arrival I was shocked with the interior of the establishment. It reminded me of an old, dirty redneck podunk restaurant off of a highway or in a small midwestern or southern town. It definitely wasn’t a Brooklyn vibe and I can tell the people who come here on a regular, and most likely the owner/management aren’t real New Yorkers. My boyfriend and I immediately felt out of a place. It was also confusing because we saw a “seat yourself” sign and went to sit like idiots for over 10 minutes, before we decided to get up and inquire about service. It was then we were told that we had to order at the bar and then come back to sit. If we hadn’t asked, no one would’ve said anything and there was no sign to indicate that. As soon as we ordered, we asked for virgin pina coladas and were met with hesitancy. The bartender literally said, “we don’t usually do that, but will do it for you since it’s a slow night”. What was the need in saying that? Just shows they only care about money because they know they’d have to charge less without liquor. Not everyone is an alcoholic and I am literally pregnant, so I didn’t feel welcomed. The drinks ended up being subpar and not tasting creamy or sweet at all. And still with all that—we still gave a tip! Now for the food. The fried chicken plate was a huge portion—way too much. The chicken quality was not great and didn’t taste super fresh. There were so many layers of airy, greasy, overly crispy skin and the chicken itself lacked flavor. It took forever to even find the meat inside because it was mostly skin. I will say—the biscuits and honey butter it came with were very good and definitely my favorite thing. As for the fish tacos—they were nice and crispy but had a weird taste and were smothered in way too many toppings. The tortilla bread wasn’t seared at all. This is the kind of restaurant that doesn’t care too much about quality because it relies on patrons being too drunk to care or on people who aren’t necessarily used to high quality meals. I was warned that this place wasn’t good but decided to give it a try because reviews were high and nothing else was available. However, I definitely...
