Paper Source — Local services in New York

Very disappointing experience. I took an Uber from Prospect Park to this Paper Source location specifically for their gift wrapping service, arriving around 6:45 PM well within their business hours. There were two staff members working, and the store was still open.

Despite this, I was told they wouldn’t provide the wrapping service because it was 15 minutes before closing. I was fully prepared to pay for the service, which is not cheap, but they simply refused to do it. No explanation beyond that they didn’t want to start it so close to closing.

This is a paid service that they offer and promote, and it’s part of their job to fulfill it during operating hours. It’s not acceptable to refuse a customer because it’s slightly inconvenient. Now I have to waste more time and money coming back another day just to complete an errand they easily could have handled.

The staff member who turned me away was an older woman with long silver hair. Based on this interaction, it’s clear the staff here are more focused on leaving right at closing than on providing customer service. I won’t be returning to...

I had some important letters I needed to send out, so I was in search of good paper and envelopes. Since paper and stationary is not my forte, I thought I would go to Paper Source. After searching through some shelves, I found what seemed like decent white paper. Next I searched for letter sized envelopes to match the paper, but couldn't find them. I asked an employee if they had envelopes to match the paper, and she replied by pointing to a section of the shelves and saying, "All of our envelopes are there." I explained to her that I saw the shelf of envelopes, and had already searched there, but wasn't able to find the envelopes that matched the paper I found. She looked on a couple shelves and in some drawers, and couldn't find a match. She then suggested I could use a 5x7 envelope for my 8.5 x 11 paper. Really? I had an extremely disappointing and upsetting experience at this location. The moment my partner and I walked in, we noticed uncomfortable glances from staff behind the counter. Not even two minutes later, a staff member walked up to the entrance and stood there watching us closely, as if we were being monitored or suspected of something without any reason or interaction. It felt dehumanizing and humiliating. The way we were treated was blatantly discriminatory, and it was enough to make us leave immediately. No one should be made to feel this way in any store.
