With all of the options for hair salons in NYC, MOS Hair Salon in Flushing stands out as one of the best hair care experiences for me. My visit to MOS on February 25 was the culmination of hours and hours of research after a bad haircut from another salon a few months earlier.

Upon entering its doors, I became the center of a dedicated team's universe, led by the incomparable Jason – even though I was 15 minutes early!

From the outset, Jason emerged not just as a stylist but as a visionary. With a keen eye and a warm, consultative approach, he gently steered me away from my initial ideas toward a cut and color that promised to elevate my look. Nervous but hopeful, I placed my trust in his expertise.

This decision marked the beginning of Jason’s five-hour attention to my hair, which resulted in a stunning foilayage masterpiece. Paired with a cut that magically worked within the confines of a bad haircut, the final reveal was more than what I hoped for. The reflection that greeted me in the mirror was me, yet elevated — a testament to Jason's ability to not just listen but to truly see his clients.

Complementing Jason's skill was an assistant, Leo, whose care ensured that every step of the process was comfortable. The team also offered snacks and refreshments throughout the process, which I appreciated because I did not have time to eat before I got there.

And before I left, Jason walked me through what I need to do (including the products I should use) to keep my hair healthy.

I don’t recommend this place.

My experience here is absolutely terrible. When I came in, I requested for someone who can atleast speak English but I was reassured that the person doing my hair (who only spoke Chinese) was able to do what I wanted for the haircut.

I trusted their words only to end up with jagged bangs and short hair. The person doing my hair didn’t ask about what kind of hair type I had—i didn’t even get a consultation because he didn’t speak any English at all. After I expressed my disappointment, an English speaker came around and tried to help but it made me feel even worse. I don’t understand why I couldn’t get an English speaker in the first place.

The haircut was completely different from what I wanted but they kept saying that it looked like the picture I showed them. Then I had to pay $40 (orig was $50 because of the discount) which is STILL A LOT for something that they couldn’t do right. They offered that the next time I come in, I will get a free hair mask treatment— but how’s a hair mask going to fix my problem? A hair mask isn’t going to fix the experience I had. Why couldn’t I get somebody that knows how to speak English to cut my hair instead?

And I was hopeful because of the 4.9 star reviews but I ended up getting a messed up look.

Now, I’ll end up having to wear a hat and hoping that it will grow out to look JUST a little bit decent. I’m honestly just so...

I came in today without an appointment hoping to get my hair fixed. I had bleached my hair myself at home just a few days ago and I completely messed it up. I was greeted by the receptionist and she was so nice. She took my coat off for me and seated me down at the waiting area. She gave me some snacks and a drink while I waited. Luckily the stylist Allen was finishing up on his client so I only had to wait 30 minutes or so. Allen sat me down and did a hair consultation to fully understand my hair, everything from hair type, previous coloring history, and what bleach I used at home. He was so patient and worked with me on what type of hair color/style I wanted. We decided on a soft brown balayage to help correct the uneven bleach job that I did on myself, and the yellow-ness/brassiness that came with it. He checked in on my hair periodically during the coloring process as well to make sure my hair was handling the chemicals well. The girl at reception also kept bringing me snacks and refilled my drinks through out the entire process. Needless to say that 5 hours later, my hair came out amazing. There was no trace of the terrible bleach job I had done on myself, the balayge came out so beautiful. I highly recommend Mos hair salon, and Allen if you are looking to get...
