The advisors here are USELESS! I normally seek the advisors at the des plaines campus when I need help but i was desperate to meet someone before classes start next week. I wanted to plan my courses with an advisor. I wanted to change my degree and make a plan as to what classes i needed for which semester to complete my degree. First, my appointment was at 1pm. She had me wait 15 minutes. She did not have a prior student as i visibly SAW her with my own eyes playing on her phone when it was supposed to be my appointment time. Very classy. As soon as i walked in my eyes watered a little from her own body odor. All Erica Gonzalez did was look at the oakton website, lost, for 15-20 minutes. She appeared to have NO CLUE what she was doing. Literally just read word for word what was on the website and mispronounced what she was reading as well. Thats her “advising” She did not answer my questions, and was VERY unhelpful and needs to be FIRED! If i wanted to look at the oakton website i could have done it at HOME. She did nothing for me that i couldnt have done myself! Wasted my time and then after I called her out and left her office she sent me an email lying about how unprofessional and disorganized she was and how the appointment went to save her own skin! So embarrassing for her. I needed resources! Planning! I had questions i needed help with! She also didnt change my degree selection which was the first thing i wanted to do as she scrambled papers on her desk as if it was her first day in her own office, youd think she was high or it was her first day on planet earth! NEVER COMING HERE FOR ADVISING EVER AGAIN!!!!!! Save your time and breath and go to the des plaines campus if you need help, and DO NOT go to ERICA GONZALEZ!!!!!!!!! Worst!...
Read moreWhen my mother died, I missed some school. Oakton would not let me make up any missed work. It would not let me drop any classes. This was not only exceptionally cruel, it also resulted in the ruin of my 4.0 gpa, and any chance I had of getting into a good transfer school.
This school is composed of two campuses, 20+ miles apart, but there is no shuttle between them. On public transportation, it takes two hours to get from one campus to the other.
This school forces you to leave your belongings unattended while taking tests, or (some of the) lab classes. This has resulted in the theft and (in some cases) destruction of expensive personal property, but the school has refused all suggested...
Read moreNeeded lab sciences. Organic & Inorganic Chem, Micro, A & P. Heard about Oakton. Learned the credits earned would transfer without an issue. In district the tuition was do-able. An easy commute. Safe area. Concentrated term options allowed me to get the credits in the time I needed. Had to get in, spend the least amount of time possible, before enrolling elsewhere - again. Recorded lectures, re-wrote notes. Excellent instructors. Open to any questions I had. Classes were not easy here at all. The harder I worked the more I learned. Enjoyed the other students in the time I had. Reputable. Reliable. Respected. Oakton worked for me. A good...
