I’ve been wanting to stop here for literal years, however only passing by occasionally on cross country roadtrips it wasn’t the highest priority. This time I got to stop and I’m so glad I did. The staff were incredibly helpful, attentive, available while all the while giving off comfortable welcoming vibes and not being overbearing.

They have tons of awesome products, with some specifically local or near local/regional items. Lots of their items are the common things you’ll find at other tourist traps (like huckleberry lemonade mix but this one the bag said Nebraska instead of Idaho, California, etc). They have so many amazing books, toys, antiques, handmade items, decor, classic tchotchkes and post cards, and so much more. Very clean and easy to navigate with generally wide isles and corners, plus lots of photo opportunities. The museum is free! However it doesn’t seem very accessible for the blind or those who struggle with reading english, lots of cool items in the display cases and hung in the walls, made more interesting and impressive with the plaques describing relevant information.

Ya gotta love a good tourist trap! Especially one with such a long-standing tradition for the many Nebraskans who have traveled I-80 on family vacations over the years. I first visited in 1972, and this year, I was able to bring my granddaughter for her first visit. But there's more than just western-themed toys and a two headed calf! Fort Cody has one of the best selections of turquoise and natural stone jewelry in the state. If you're a turquoise aficionado, you'll appreciate their turquoise selection grouped by mines, as well as their knowledge of the stones.
