Poor customer service, social bias, and low quality cell phone accessories is why I have one star. I know that was a loaded sentence to start my review, read on to understand why.
Went in Monday, and was greeted by a lady about 10 ft away, at the register with, “Welcome to Five Below please be aware we are closing in 20 min.”
I said ok and asked if she could point me in the direction of the cell phone cases. She said, “They are right in front of you.” I looked directly in front of me and they were not there. Red Flag #1. She was rude and incorrect.
Another worker approached from my left and says they are down here. I was at the front of the store. She was not giving me any other reference points, just her finger pointing down an aisle that extends the depth of the store. I am not sure why she couldn’t at least walk a few feet and gesture towards the general area. I am standing there being yelled very ambiguous directions by two women now. I still do not see the cases. The first woman, at the register, yells out, “See where the orange boxes are.” Red Flag #2.
At this point I am thinking is this really happening? Does my presence in this store require such loudness and lack of assistance? These people are really not helpful and they are rude. I shrug it off, give them the benefit of doubt, and say I guess they are ready to go home.
I quickly try to pick out a case for my cell phone as a third worker immediately comes out of nowhere and begins straightening the cases out. The store layout is terribly cramped feeling. Her presence is annoying and clearly not necessary. Then all of a sudden what appear to be shoppers, who are watching me, come in the cell phone case area. I am 51 and have a lot of experience shopping and having “workers” and “shoppers” follow me around stores, which is why I do most of my shopping online. Red Flag #3.
When I went to the register it was self checkout. I had two items and one of them appeared on the screen twice. I needed to ask the register lady, if she could help. Had to wait because she was telling a man, who looked different than I, in very syrup sweet tones, that they were closing in 10 min. I was astounded that he received such a kind communication. That’s when I realized that bias was at play. Same woman, 10 mins closer to closing mustering a professional attitude. Red Flag #4
When Register Lady finished talking, she came and said very loudly, and in rushed clipping tones, “You rang it up twice.” Then left the register, stood back and barked commands for me to finish check out, which I did not need at this point. I was like wow! She has a totally different disposition with me than the man. Red Flag #5
As I finished my transaction I heard her talking in very nice professional tones and even offered to finish a transaction for a lady. When I finished my transaction I looked back to see the customer Register Lady was being so sweet with. She looked nothing like me. Red Flag #6.
At that very moment the second worker I mentioned, the one who was pointing towards the back of the store, yelled from a podium near the door, about 8 ft. away from me, “THANK YOU!” It was such a loud thank you that most anyone would turn to look. I was shocked to see her looking at me. I was still trying to put my receipt and credit card in my wallet and was nowhere near the door. Her thank you had no energy of gratitude. Her tone and glaring eyes were saying leave. # Red Flag #7
I spend very little time thinking about someone’s bias towards me, however, seven Red Flags can’t be ignored. Not sure why all customers are not treated with respect at this store. I will not return. Workers like this are why I shop online. I get better quality products and don’t have to be harassed while shopping. At my age I have more money to spend and I want to enjoy shopping. If you want to enjoy shopping and look like me, in my opinion, you should not go here. The workers need customer service and...

Read moreI recently visited the Five Below store, and I had such a delightful experience! From the moment I walked in, the manager, Jennifer, greeted me with the biggest smile, instantly lifting my spirits. Her positive energy set the tone for my shopping trip. Dillian, the assistant, was equally charming and pleasant, making my visit even more enjoyable. It's refreshing to encounter such friendly and helpful staff! The store itself was impressively clean and organized, making it easy to find what I was looking for. I loved every moment of my visit and will definitely be returning. Highly recommend this location
